Adeline Lee

Adeline Lee went to her heavenly home on Monday, August 16th at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND with family at her side. Adeline Kurz was born November 30th 1924 in Gackle, ND to Alvina and Adam Kurz. She graduated from Zap High School in spring of 1942 and married Harold N. Lee in the fall 1942. They made their home and farmed Southwest of Dodge, ND until his death in 1976. Harold and Adeline had four daughters; Sandra Larry Phillips, Coon Rapids, MN; Connie Eugene Nicholas, Cando, ND; Christine Douglas Werts, Germantown, TN, and Susan Brion Henderson Tower City, ND. She enjoyed so many happy times with her ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Besides these family members, Adeline leaves behind a brother, William Kurz, of Dummellon, Fl. Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lee, her parents, Alvina and Adam Kurz, and her brother, Albert Kurz. Adeline's life on the farm was busy. She always had a big garden. She was a wonderful baker. Addie was a Sunday school teacher and 4-H Leader and was involved with Farm Bureau, Republican politics and the Cowbells. Yet she spent many summer days with her friends fishing. She worked for the Census Bureau and also for the North Dakota House of Representatives during the 1973 and 1975 Legislative sessions. Adeline moved to Bismarck in 1976 and worked in the ND Tax Department for several years. She was a member of the Bismarck Community Church. She married Roland Mund from Mandan in 1979. They started to spend their winters in Mesa in the late 80's and finally made their permanent home there in 1993. She was a very active retiree and was known for her "zip" and earned the name "Racer Grandma"! Addie loved to be with her friends doing various activities and was an avid golfer. She enjoyed living in the Wells Community in Mesa, AZ. She was an active member of the Hope Community Church in Gilbert, Arizona. She continued her community involvement by volunteering at Banner Baywood Medical Center and the Mesa Senior Center. Addie spent many of her last summers in Rexburg, Idaho with her Mesa friends. Adeline will be remembered as a good friend to many. She continued to gather friends young and old even during her short time at Elim Care Center. She will be buried at the family plot in the Loring cemetery near the farm at Dodge. A memorial service to celebrate Adeline's life will be held at the Bismarck Community Church on Friday, August 20, 2004 at 10:30 am with Pastor Ronald Klein officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
