Anna Martin

Anna Martin, 97, Bismarck, died March 16, 2008, at a Bismarck hospital. Anna Katharina was born on November 23, 1910, south of Tappen, ND, in Peace Township in Kidder County to Jacob and Katharina Kaiser Werre. She was raised and attended school in that area. On October 25, 1932, Anna and Fred Martin were married at Glueckstal Lutheran Church southwest of Tappen. They farmed in Valley Township until 1975. In 1976, they moved to Steele, ND, where they lived until July of 1998 when they moved to Bismarck. Anna moved to the Golden Manor in Steele in November of 2002. Anna believed life should be lived with strong faith and great love for our Heavenly Father. She was a charter member of Glueckstal Lutheran Church where she taught Bible School and Sunday School. While in Steele, she belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church. She was past-president and member of Women's Elizabeth Circle and belonged to Homemaker's Club. Anna enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, canning, singing, and playing the organ. She and Fred appreciated the trips they took to California and Florida to visit family members. Visiting with friends and spending precious time with the family held great value to Anna. She believed families should stay together. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by those who survive her. She is survived her sons and daughters-in-law, Hilbert and Crystal Martin and Donald Martin, all of Bismarck, and James and Karen Martin of Sheldon, IA; her daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Arnold Hoff of Fargo, ND, Marilyn Lott of Las Vegas, NV, Cynthia and Quentin Carlson of Glenburn, ND, and Albert Wolf of Jamestown, ND; eight granddaughters, Sherry Richardson, Audrey Grosz, Deborah Leno, Judith Butler, Renee Lott, Tammy Green, Jamie Cushman, and Leah Carlson; ten grandsons, Mark and Kirby Wolf, Douglas and David Hoff, Robert Lott, Bryon, Peter, and Fred Martin, and Nathan and Paul Carlson; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one sister, Mathilda Zimmeran of Fargo; one brother-in-law, Walter Martin of Steele; one sister-in-law, Emma Werre of Bismarck; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; her daughter, Lillian Wolf; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Martin; her great-grandson, Matthew Green; four brothers, Art, George, Christ, and baby Edward Werre; and five sisters, Mary Strobel, Hertha Oster, Adelia Doerr-Adams, Frieda Martin, and Emma Johns.
