Arlene Miller

Arlene F. Miller, 72, Bismarck, passed away February 21, 2010, in her home. Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at Bismarck Baptist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Merle Hoots officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until 9:00 pm Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Arlene was born July 15, 1937, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Edwin and Ellen Johnson. She attended grade school in Grasslake Township. There after, she moved to Bismarck in 1950, and attended junior high and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1955. Arlene married Herbert R. Miller on November 26, 1955, at Bismarck Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member and worked in various areas of the church for many years. Also through the years, Arlene worked at Armor Creamery, Osco Drug, Bismarck Hospital, along side her husband, Herbert, at the Randall and Russell building, the Parking Ramp, and Big Lots. Arlene’s main priorities in her life were to love her family and friends, and give to the Bismarck Baptist Church. Growing up she spent almost every day with her cousin, Evelyn Johnson Zelmer, whom was a very important person to Arlene through her entire life. Arlene was a caring, loving person, who would often put others before herself, including her husband, Herbert, who she dedicated much of her time to for a very long time, with his many health ailments, until his death in May 2008. If that weren’t enough, she also devoted much of her time taking care of and spending time with her eldest granddaughter, Kristina. Arlene was always there, helping her family and friends when needed. She was a woman of projects. She loved to quilt, especially with the ladies in her church, and enjoyed all types of needlework and sewing. She also loved to read. When her health didn’t allow her to do the things she loved anymore, she spent many hours visiting with her friends on the phone and when possible, getting out of the house and going for dinner or supper with her children. Aside from her family and friends, Arlene also loved spending time at home with her kitties and above all, her puppy, Gracie. Arlene is survived by her six children: two daughters, Brenda Jans, Mandan, and Renee Miller, Bismarck, and her four sons, Daniel Miller, David Ann Miller, Dale Miller, and Terry Miller, all of Bismarck; her three granddaughters, Kristina Miller, Katie Miller and Emmy Miller, all of Bismarck; her sisters-in-law, Adeline Dufloth, Fort Collins, CO, Frances Miller, Bismarck, and Barb Miller, Glendale, AZ; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Milo and Joyce Miller, Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert R. Miller; and her parents. The family would like to thank St. Alexius Hospice for the wonderful care and support. We will miss you mom and grandma!
