Butch Schreiner

Larry "Butch" Schreiner, 43, Bismarck, died March 5, 2011, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 11, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with Rev. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday, March 10, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Larry Butch Schreiner was born on June 3, 1967, to Larry and Marlene Paul Schreiner. He was raised in Raleigh, North Dakota, where he attended Leahy Elementary School and St. Gertrude's High School. He went on to attend the Wahpeton State School of Science where he majored in automotive mechanics. As a young man, Butch worked at the Raleigh Grain Elevator and then moved to Bismarck where he began working at Steve's Auto Repair, a business he later acquired in 2001. Music was a very important part of Butch's life. At the age of 16, he borrowed his Mom's 45 rpm records, bought a record player, used his Grandpa Lambert's pick up to travel to his gigs, and realized his dream. As Butch's DJ business grew, so did his music collection and one day he bought his 'mystery machine', a van to carry more equipment. Butch was in his glory, beaming, so proud of himself for his accomplishments. The professional DJ services and sound production called Night Patrol was born. He played at many wedding dances, birthday parties, school functions, etc., and was involved with the sound production for the Annual ABATE Motorcycle Rally at Menoken and for the North Dakota State Girls Dance and Drill Team competitions. Butch lost his Dad, Larry, in 1973, which was very hard on him and his brothers. Butch was not yet six years old, but he took it upon himself to be the man of the house and this continued until his dying day. In 1975, his "new" Dad, Charlie, came into his life and a very special bond was formed. Butch was very proud of his family and to be the oldest of his five brothers and one sister, taking on the responsibility of protecting and keeping them safe. His Mom and Dad always knew that everything would be fine when they left him "in charge." On April 13, 1991, Butch married the love of his life, Cyndi Lipp. To this union, two sons were born; his pride and joy, James and Jacob. Butch loved to go deer, pheasant, and turkey hunting with all of his brothers and his Uncle Herb. During the past few years, his sons, James and Jacob, and his nephew, Brett, also joined in the hunt and great outdoor experiences. Butch enjoyed riding his motorcycle down the highway with the wind in his face to attend the Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. He loved to visit and cared about everyone; making an impact and touching so many people's lives. One would be a stranger for only a short while and then gain a special friend, Butch. Butch always watched the Weather Channel and calls were made to family members to be aware of an approaching storm and to make sure the windows were closed. The Dallas Cowboys were the team to watch; and Butch let it be known that they were the best! Butch loved spending personal time with Cyndi and the boys, so trips were made to watch the Minnesota Twins play. This was a great family outing for them as was a Disney Cruise they took in 2006. Family and friends recall Butch's favorite sayings whenever they saw him: "I'm glad you got to see me;" "Tell me you love me;" and when they asked him how things were going, he would answer, "Just living the dream!" To his Mom, he would jokingly say, "You're not the boss of me, I'm all grown up now." Butch is survived by his cherished family: wife, Cyndi, and sons, James and Jacob, Bismarck; his parents, Marlene and Charlie Miller, Raleigh; brothers Todd Kristi Schreiner and Wes Leslie Miller, Washburn, Carey Lynn Schreiner, Shannon Hope Schreiner, and Travis Carrie Miller, Bismarck; and sister, Kimberly Andrew Skari, Denver, Colorado; numerous brothers/sisters-in-law; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and friends. Butch was preceded in death by his beloved Dad, Larry; Grandparents, Eleanor and Frank Paul, Val and Amelia Schreiner, and Lambert and Regina Miller; Parents-in-law, John and Irene Lipp; and a very special Aunt, Darlene Brilz. Memorials may be sent to the American Bank Center, 320 North 4th Street, Bismarck, ND, where a college fund has been established for Butch's sons. The family would like to thank all of Butch's friends, the doctors and nursing staff at St. Alexius Medical Center, the students and staff at St. Mary's Elementary and St. Mary's High Schools, and Father Gene Lindemann for their care and compassion.
