Christine Wolf

Christine Wolf, 88, Bismarck, died May 26, 2007, at a St. Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Church of St. Anne in Bismarck with Rev. Thomas Richter officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Bismarck. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 - 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck where a Catholic Daughter's Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM followed by a vigil service. Visitation will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Christine was born on a farm near Linton, North Dakota, on November 19, 1918, during the war and flu epidemic, the daughter of Adam and Magdalena Wickenheiser Wolf. When she was two years old, her family moved to a farm near Strasburg. She attended county school and boarded with Ursaline Sisters while attending school in Strasburg. During the war, Christine worked at Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver, Washington, building aircraft carriers. She was chosen to be on deck for the christening of the ship, Casablanca, that was built and launched on January 4, 1944. Christine moved back home and helped on the farm until the family moved into Strasburg in 1947. She worked at the school as a cook for three years and then worked at the rectory for the priests doing bookwork, cleaning, and cooking while living at home, and taking care of her parents. After her father died in 1957, she and her mother had a house built in Bismarck, where Christine worked for JC Penney for thirty-five years, retiring in 1992. In 1995, Christine moved to Marillac Manor with her sister where she did volunteer work for ten years and also ran the gift shop at St. Vincent's Care Center for six years. Due to health problems, Christine moved to Edgewood Vista in November of 2005. She still kept busy writing poetry, playing cards, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, exercising, and doing crafts. She was asked to write poems for literally hundreds of people and occasions, most of which were personally and spiritually oriented. In recent years, Sundays and holidays were spent with her brother, Al, and his wife, Karen, going to church, concerts, dinner, and playing cards, with her sister-in-law, Agatha Wolf occasionally filling in. Christine was recognized for years as one of the best pinochle players in the area. Christine traveled to Iowa to see Pope John Paul II in 1979 and also traveled to Canada in 1982, the year her mother died. She was Regent of the Court of the Bismarck Catholic Daughters from 1984 - 1986 and did volunteer work at St. Alexius Gift Shop, Church of St. Anne, and St. Vincent's Care Center. In September of 1997, she was chosen Outstanding Volunteer of the Year at Folkfest. She was a member of Church of St. Anne for over fifty years and was a member of the choir, a lector, and a communion minister, and participated in services and activities on a daily basis until her recent illness. Christine is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Karen Wolf of Bismarck; five Wolf sisters-in-law, Agatha of Bismarck, Theresa of Strasburg, Betty of Spokane, Washington, Lillian of Sun City, California, and Agnes of Salem, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Tony, Ignatius, John, Mike, Peter, and Joe; and her sisters, Maggie Burckhard, Philipine McNeil, and Barbara Bantz.
