Conrad Flemmer

Conrad Flemmer, 89, Pick City, died March 17, 2008. Services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Riverdale with Rev. John Nilsen officiating. Burial will be held at Lutheran Gemeinde Cemetery, Pick City, North Dakota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Conrad was born on February 22, 1919, in rural Zap, North Dakota, the son of Jacob and Christiana Voegele Flemmer. He was the fourth of thirteen children. He grew up on the rural Zap area. He joined the CCCs where he enjoyed working on projects in the Idaho and Montana mountains. He briefly served in the Army during World War II. Conrad married Jewell Marie Buechler on April 7, 1944 in Wibaux, Montana. They settled in Pick City in 1948 where they raised their family. They were married for 60 years. Jewell passed away in 2004. Conrad was a crane operator and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 49 Union for more than 50 years. He worked on many of the major building projects in the area, including Garrison Dam, local power plants and missile sites. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a member of the American Legion Post #0281 for 43 years, and active in the community. He enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, bowling, and took pride in being able to fix almost anything Conrad resided at the MedCenter One Mandan Care Center since 2005 where he enjoyed the friendship and care of the staff and residents. He was a talented musician who could play almost any instrument without reading a note. He loved being around people whether it was entertaining them, lending a hand to a friend, or just visiting. Conrad's fun loving demeanor will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Conrad is survived by his daughter, Connie Cantrell of Bismarck, ND; his sons, Floyd Carol Flemmer of Hillsboro, OR, Jack Mary Flemmer of Belton, MO, and Chuck Flemmer of Grand Forks, ND; his sister, Esther Ott of Beulah, ND; his brothers, Louie Flemmer of Beulah, ND, and George Flemmer of Beaverton, OR; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brothers, Karl Flemmer and Mike Flemmer; his sisters, Irene Weidrich and Lydia Buechler-Becker; and five infant siblings.
