Dewey O Hurick

Dewey Orville Hurick, 93, Bismarck, ND, passed away on February 8, 2012, at St. Gabriel's Community Nursing Home surrounded by family. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, February 10, 2012, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, February 9, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to the service. Dewey was born December 19, 1918, in Dickinson, ND, the son of Joe H. and Jennie Petrick Hurick. He was raised on the "home place" on Spring Creek, north of Dickinson. After graduating from Dickinson High School, he and Mary Francis Marsh of Dickinson, wed August 29, 1942, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Rolla, MO, where Dewey was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood. Dewey served in the Pacific Campaign during World War II at Luzon, New Guinea and Saipan, and was discharged in August 1945. Dewey and Mary lived and worked in Dickinson. Dewey drove trucks for Sweetheart Bakery, and Eklund Brothers Transport, Inc. who presented Dewey an award in 1958 for Driver of the Year. In 1963, Dewey was dispatcher and driver for Arnie's Stockways on the Bismarck-Mandan bypass, so the family moved to Bismarck. Later, he began his own trucking business as well as an owner-operator for International Transport, Inc. and drove for Consolidated Freightways. He then earned his North Dakota real estate license and worked for ID Realty until his retirement. He volunteered at both St. Alexius and Medcenter One Hospitals concurrently for twelve years. Dewey is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dewey A. and Terry Hurick, Miles City, MT; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Duane Lacher, Bismarck; three granddaughters, Heather Scott Cope, Red Lodge, MT, Jennifer Jon Peterson, and Hailey Lacher, all of Bismarck. He will be greatly missed by all including, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dewey was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1997; his parents, Joe H. and Jennie Hurick; his brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Myrna Hurick; sister, Emilie Dandaneau, and his nephew, Cameron Hurick.
