Edward Otto

Edward Otto, 86, Mandan, died March 19, 2004, at his home. Services will be held at the 11:00 AM Tuesday at First Evangelical Free Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Terry Kern officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday, at Eastgate Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Edward was born on October 14, 1917, at Robinson, ND, the son of Jacob and KathrynGreubele Otto. He was raised and educated at Burt, ND, where he was raised on a farm. He worked with the CCC's in 1937. Edward married Ruth L. Hillius on June 2, 1941, in the parsonage at Elgin, ND. They farmed until moving to Mandan, in 1958. They lived in Bismarck from 1961 to 1970, when they moved to Minneapolis, MN, where Edward worked at a golf course. In 1974, they moved to Coon Rapids, MN, and lived there until returning to Mandan in 1976. He worked for Bismarck Parks and Recreation until his retirement in 1986. Edward was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Bismarck. He strongly believed in trusting in the Lord and obedience to God. He took part in Bible study groups and was involved in Sunday School. In his spare time Ed enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, fishing, reading the Bible, and he loved to work. Family life was very important to Ed. He loved his family and will be deeply missed by all of them. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Mandan; his daughter, Marliss Anderson of Bismarck; his sons and daughter-in-law, Delbert Otto of Brooklyn Park, MN, Donald Otto and Verlyn Otto, both of the Manitowoc, WI area, and Harvey and Leva Otto of Mandan; his grandchildren, Marlyn and Kevin Anderson, Tim Smith, Richard and Michelle Summers, DeLaine Mick, Blake and Lisa Erickson, Michael Williams, and Danette Williamson; his great-grandchildren, Amber, Barry, Dustin, Dalton, Derek, Issaia, Keanu, April, Jonathan, TiAnna, and Bryson; his brothers, Ted Gunsch of WA, and Leo Gunsch of Mandan; and his sisters, Ella Ottmar of Dickinson, and Emma and her husband, John Ottmar of Mott, ND. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lillian Olson; his son-in-law, Charles Anderson; his daughter-in-law, Carol Otto; and his granddaughter, Renae Ridgeway.
