Elizabeth Wald

Elizabeth Mathern Wald, 86, Bismarck, passed away on June 9, 2010, at Medcenter One St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with Fr. Chad Gion officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Napoleon, on Monday, 2:30 pm. Visitation will be held from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm Sunday at Medcenter One St. Vincent’s Care Center and from 4:00 pm until 7:00 Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Elizabeth was born on January 23, 1924, in rural Logan County, ND. Elizabeth married Peter “Pete” A. Wald on November 16, 1943, in St. Anthony Catholic Church in rural Napoleon, ND. Together, they farmed the family homestead until April 1981 when they retired and moved to Wishek, ND. Pete passed away on October 23, 1983. Elizabeth moved to Marillac Manor in Bismarck on July 14, 1995. She entered Medcenter One St. Vincent’s Care Center on July 23, 2001, where she resided until the time of her death. Elizabeth’s faith, church, and family were a very important part of her life. She was a great seamstress and enjoyed making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Elizabeth loved to play cards and cherished the time she spent with her many friends, children, and grandchildren. To those who knew her well, she will be remembered for her sense of humor and laughter and for her delicious meals she loved to prepare for others. It was an honor and a privilege to be a part of her life. Elizabeth is survived by her four children, Eileen Bruse Larry, Bismarck, ND, Clarence Wald Jean, Colorado Springs, CO, Elsie Voightman Steve, Oakes, ND, and Gerrald Wald, Bismarck, ND; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Nicolini, Galt, CA, Rose Aberle Joe, Linton, ND, Dorothy Hoopman Wes, Bismarck, ND, Theresa Lacher, Williston, ND, and Bernie Vetter Leo, Bismarck, ND; and two brothers, Blasé Mathern Josephine, Minot, ND, and Joe Mathern Elaine, Bismarck, ND. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Wald; two grandchildren, Blaine Voightman and Mitchell Paul Wald; three sisters, Margaret Vetter Roy, Katherine Welder Mike, and Mary Eva Aberle August; one brother, John Mathern Christine; two brothers-in-law, Tony Lacher and Al Nicolini; and her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Mathern.
