Elva Weiler

Elva JoAnn Weiler, 75, Bismarck, passed away May 18, 2010, at St. Alexius, from complications of lung cancer, with her daughter and her granddaughter at her side. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Monday, May 24, 2010, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Elva was born March 12, 1935, in Regent, ND, to Irene Zich Keehn and John Keehn. She attended school in Mott, ND. She earned her GED in 1992 at Dickinson High School. As a youngster, Elva enjoyed taking the train from Mott to Regent with her brothers and sisters to spend time with her grandma Zich and to have lots of homemade goodies to eat. On October 10, 1950, Elva married Roy Weiler in Mott. For a short time they lived in Alabama and Georgia while Roy was in the service and then moved to Billings, MT, where Roy was a plumber. This is where their daughter Faye was born in 1954. After returning to Mott, Roy and Elva became co-owners of Weiler’s Plumbing and Heating, a three generation business. Their daughter Peggy was born in 1961. Elva moved to Bismarck, ND, a few years after Roy passed away in 1995. Elva enjoyed reading, spending time with family at Heart Butte, and trying new recipes. She made the best chokecherry jelly, pickled beets, chili and fudge. Elva had a talent for wrapping and decorating presents and making them look like works of art. She felt it was important to hang fresh washed sheets and towels on the clothesline so they would have the right smell, even in the middle of winter where they would often freeze and be stiff as a board. Her favorite place was by the water at Monterey Bay, which she was able to see when she spent time visiting Faye and Duane when they lived in California. Whatever she did, she put her heart and soul in it always giving 110% effort, whether it was being a foster grandparent at Centennial Elementary School and taking home the school books to study during the evening, working at Northern Plains Ballet, where she would take the costumes home to sew or iron, or cleaning the office at Weisz & Sons, which were jobs she had after moving to Bismarck. Family was very important to Elva and she loved her granddaughter Emily dearly. They had fun together having potato garbage sack races, sled riding in West Mott, jumping off the swing, and nearly breaking one ankle while swinging a “Skip It” on the other ankle. Elva was known for her kind, gentle nature and her sense of humor. She will be missed and carried in the hearts of her daughter, Peggy Weisz; her sons-in law, Don Weisz and Duane Hartman; her granddaughter, Emily JoAnn Weisz; her granddog, Gabby; her sister, Shirley Timmermeyer; her brothers, Gerald, Clinton, and Bobby; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her daughter, Faye; her sister, Linda Hafner; her brothers, Raymond, Leslie, Danny, Gail, and Jonathon JD; her parents; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
