Gary R Tangen

Gary R. Tangen, 78, Carrington, ND, died July 29, 2012, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, August 3, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, August 2, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Gary Roger was born October 11, 1933, at Northwood, ND, the son of Perdin and Cora Galde Tangen. He graduated from high school in Northwood, and went on to earn a BS degree from Mayville State University, and a master's degree from Colorado State University. Gary married Beatrice Lee on December 28, 1952, at Hatton, ND. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 – 1956 on the USS Badoeng Strait CVE-116. Gary taught science at Hazen and Trenton, ND, and San Benito, TX. He was the Chem Lab supervisor at Great River Energy Coal Creek Station until his retirement. Gary and Beatrice spent many years traveling between Arizona, Texas, Minnesota, and North Dakota. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. Gary was a man of facts and had a lifelong interest in learning and keeping up with world affairs. He participated with the 7th Calvary Memorial Regiment and provided many great cookouts. Those attending high school during Gary's teaching years in Hazen always enjoyed his annual mid-winter science lab on making and eating homemade ice cream. Gary also enjoyed going to auction sales and flea markets. Gary lived at the Golden Acres Manor in Carrington for the past 2 ½ years and he enjoyed his time and friendships there. Gary leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Beatrice, Underwood; two sons, Ron Patty, Bismarck, and Randy, Underwood; a daughter, Ruth Tom Bettenhausen, Bismarck; two grandsons, Andrew and Aaron Bettenhausen, five granddaughters, Angela Bettenhausen, Amanda Derrick Fechtner; Hannah Tangen, Melissa Rob Herman, and Lacey Dan Eastgate, and eight great-grandchildren, Avery, Markie, Elijah, Elyana, Xander, Charles, Jace, and Ryer; his brother, William Tangen, Grand Forks; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and several aunts and uncles.
