Genevieve "Gen" Horner

Genevieve “Gen” R. Horner Rohrich, 88, Mandan, passed away peacefully June 22, 2010, at her home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, at the Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker presiding. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. A Rosary/vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Gen was born Nov. 17, 1921, to Frank and Elizabeth Rohrich on a farm south of Linton in Emmons County. She was raised and educated in the Linton area. Gen married Peter A. Horner on Feb. 11, 1946, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Linton. She owned a beauty shop there until the couple and their family moved to Bismarck in 1961. Gen enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, caring for her roses, canning, cooking, and ceramics. She and Peter were charter members of the Church of Corpus Christi, and Gen was active in Elkettes, PEO, and St. Francis Guild Circle. Gen loved life with her family and friends and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Gen is survived by her husband Peter, Mandan; sons, Keith, Bismarck; Bruce Linda, Mandan; Randy Cheri, Mandan; Jeff Gail, Eden Prairie, MN; and daughter Janean Paul Welk, Bismarck; eleven grandchildren, Justin Melissa Horner, Rochester, MN; Leslie Dustin Hollevoet, Bismarck; Josh Horner, Bismarck; Jesse Brittany Horner, Horseshoe Bay, TX; Cassidy Horner, Gillette, WY; Crista Horner, Bismarck; Thomas, John and Jeffrey Welk, Bismarck; Alison and Jenna Horner, Eden Prairie, MN; and two great grandchildren, Carden Hollevoet, Bismarck and Stella Horner, Rochester. She is also survived by her sisters, Regina Braun, Bismarck; Anna Mary Mastel, Hazelton; Isabel Glass, Bismarck; brother, Ed Ellen Rohrich, Casper, WY; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul; and brother, Tony.
