Helen Juhala

Helen Juhala, 92, died January 2, 2005 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. A spring burial will be at Ahola Cemetery, Wing, ND. Visitation will be 5 - 9 PM Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Helen Irene Josephson was born on September 24, 1912, in Harriet Township, Burleigh County, the daughter of Charles Edward and Wendla Hemmi Josephson. She was raised on the family farm near Wing, ND, and attended school in Wing. Helen attended State Teacher's College in Valley City, ND, and taught in Harriet School District in Burleigh County. Helen married Arnold Juhala on December 24, 1934, in Bismarck, ND. In 1937, they moved to Minot, where she reared her family and worked for twenty-five years as a medical records secretary at St. Joseph and Trinity Hospitals. In 1989, they returned to Bismarck. They renewed their membership at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck, where she enjoyed her church circle and Women's Bible Study Group. Helen was interested in homemaking, civic activities, reading, and music. Helen is survived by her two sons, Roland Shirley Juhala, Lake Sherwood, MO, and John Gerlinde Juhala, South Haven, MI; two daughters, Beryl Neil Hultin, Waterloo Ontario, Canada, and Carolyn William Clark, Duluth, MN; eleven grandchildren, Philip, Geoffrey, and Karen Hultin, Jeffrey, Steven, and Charles Juhala, Robert Juhala, Jennifer DeYoung, and William, David, and Susan Clark; fifteen great-grandchildren, Michael and David Hultin, Aidan, Cameron, and Ethan Hultin Warren, Kaitlin, Julie, Megan, and Kyle Juhala, Grace and Alex Juhala, Maxwell and Kathryn DeYoung, and Benjamin and Sarah Hultin; two sisters, Mildred Rova and Nina Voigt, both of Jamestown, ND; one brother, Donald Josephson of Billings, MT; four sisters-in-law, Lenora Juhala of Wilton, ND, Lucille Juhala of Bismarck, Edna Juhala of Fresno, CA, and Lela Josephson of Peoria, IL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; four brothers, Earl, Raymond, William, and Arnold; sister, Hilma; and daughter-in-law, Donna Juhala. Helen's family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck in her memory.
