Irene Frieboes

Irene Frieboes, 90, died April 26, 2010, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, with Rev. Alan Schut officiating. Burial will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Irene was born June 6, 1919, in New Leipzig, ND, the daughter of Richard and Christina Schmautz Fiedler. When Irene was five her family moved to Walker Township. She attended school there and at Solon Township. Irene graduated from Mott Lincoln High School in 1941 as salutatorian of her class. She was a substitute teacher in the Walker School District during the teacher shortage in 1941. On December 7, 1941, Irene was united in marriage to Alfred B. Frieboes at a Baptist Church in rural New Leipzig, by the Rev. William Frieboes. Irene and Alfred then moved to the homestead of Wilhelm Frieboes in Chilton Township, which was 15 miles southwest of Mott. They lived there until 1952 when Alfred was diagnosed with MS. In 1970, they moved to Mott, after having lived three miles west of Mott for the interval. On March 20, 1987, they moved to Bismarck. Irene was a 30 year employee of Hettinger County. She was the Deputy Clerk of the District Court, Clerk of the County Court and also the Register of Deeds. She was also the Treasurer for Castle Rock Township, Chilton School District, and Mott School District. Irene was also a licensed agent for Prairie States Life Insurance Company. Irene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she held many offices including presidentin Mott. She was a member of Zoar Congregational Church in Mott where she was a Sunday school teacher, secretary, and youth leader. She was also a former member of the Germans from Russia and the Hettinger County Historical Society. Irene was also a member of the Red Hat Society and was a member of Bismarck Community Church. Irene is survived by her son, Jim Terry, Dickinson, ND; two grandchildren, Justin Arissa Frieboes, West Fargo, ND, and Jamey Brooke Frieboes, Miles City, MT; one great-grandchild, Haydan; her grown foster son, Francis Herauf; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her parents; her brothers, Arthur, Walter, and Rudy Fielder; her sisters, Helen Vernon Erickson, and Selma Walter Auch; and her great-granddaughter, Alicyn Frieboes.
