Irene V Skaley

Irene V. Skaley, 90, Bismarck, passed away January 8, 2015, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 12, at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Jon Splichal Larson and Rev. Rebecca Aardahl officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memoral Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Sunday, January 11, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Irene was born September 24, 1924, at Otter Creek, ND, to Jacob and Mathilda Bickel Gittel. She was raised and attended school at Otter Creek through the eighth grade. She continued her education at Glen Ullin High School, after which she graduated from Christie Beauty School. On September 28, 1947, Irene was wed to Edwin H. Skaley at New Salem. They lived briefly in Ashley before settling in Bismarck. As a hairdresser, Irene worked at Patterson Beauty Salon, Elsie's Lovely Lady, and Studio of Hair Design. Many of her clients became life-long friends. Ed and Irene had two sons, Jack, Bismarck, and Kenneth, Whidbey Island, WA, and two daughters, Janet, Bismarck, and Cori, Plymouth, MN. Irene was devoted to her family and faith as an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and Friendships Circle. Hosting and participating in card games with old and new friends brought her joy. So very important to her were the friendships made throughout her life, keeping nearly every special occasion card received. Irene was a gentle spirit, forever youthful in her appearance and fashionable dress. She was interested and engaged in current events, often clipping and cataloging interesting articles for future reference. Irene took immense pride in her family and heritage, and gave selflessly her time and resources to her church and causes important to her. Irene leaves brother, Chester Gittel, Glen Ullin; sons, Jack Gail Skaley, Kenneth Diane Skaley; and daughters, Janet Les Franklund, and Cori Tim Oster. She also leaves ten grandchildren, Michelle Mark Staudinger Skaley, Bismarck, Kristi John Havlik, Missoula, MT, Jarad Ginger Skaley, Heber City, UT, Amanda Skaley, Seattle, WA, Tyler Franklund, Bismarck, Andrea Josh Flick, Vancouver, WA, Aaron Renee Franklund, Bismarck, Kate Oster, Megan Oster, and Elisabeth Oster, Plymouth, MN. She also leaves seven great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; her sister, Loretta Gordon, Greensboro, NC; brothers, Clarence Gittel, Glen Ullin, and Raymond Gittel, Sacramento, CA; as well as many dear friends. Memorials may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church Friendship Circle, Bismarck.
