James Fornshell

James E. "Jim" Fornshell, 68, died surrounded by his family on September 18, 2005 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck from complications following a brain hemorrhage. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 23rd, at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with Father Paul Cervinski officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 PM in the Carrington Cemetery. There will be visitation from 4:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday and 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service where a vigil/rosary will be held at 7:00 Thursday evening. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Jim was born May 25, 1937 in Bowdon, ND, and he graduated from Carrington High School in 1955. He began farming with his brother and father east of Carrington. On June 27, 1960 he married Mary Fruhwirth. Four years later, they moved to Hurdsfield to continue farming and were blessed with seven sons and one daughter. Jim and his family moved to Minot in 1991 to work for the North Dakota Association for the Disabled where he worked until his retirement in 2002. At that time, Jim and Mary moved to Bismarck to be near their children and grandchildren. Jim enjoyed watching sports, particularly his sons' basketball games. He loved to read, channel surf, play cards and tease his grandchildren. He was a charter member of the Hurdsfield Lions for 16 years. He served on the school board and was always active in his church and community. Jim is remembered for his simple and logical manner. He was open-minded and sociable, but he was also direct and well-respected. People loved to be around him, and he left a warm impression on everyone he met. His laid back style will be missed by all who knew him. Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary; his children, Mark Danette of Hurdsfield, Michael Kelly of Billings, MT, James Amy of Plymouth, MN, Jonathan Caroline of St. Petersburg, FL, Diana Fornshell of Wells, NV, Paul Julie, Patrick Laurie and David Fornshell all of Bismarck. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, his sisters, Dorothy Fornshell of San Mateo, CA and Betty Wood of Grapeview, WA; his brothers, Leo Fornshell of Carrington, ND and Thomas Fornshell of Vader, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Edna Fandrich Fornshell and his brother-in-law, Fred Wood.
