John B. Engelhart

John B. Engelhart, 70, of Zeeland, N.D., died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, with his family near, at his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Bismarck, ND. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 22, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Feltman and Monsignor Jeff Wald officiating. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Zeeland. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Parkway Funeral Service 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a 7 p.m. prayer service and rosary. Visitation will continue from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Zeeland, with a prayer service and rosary at 7 p.m. John was born August 27, 1939, on a farm near Venturia, the son of John and Magdalena Schumacher Engelhart. He attended a rural school and graduated from Zeeland High School. On October 28, 1957, he married Rosella Marquart at St. John’s Catholic Church rural Zeeland. John and Rosella took over John’s parent’s farm, where they raised their nine children. On November 25, 2000, John married Cyrella Wangler at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Zeeland. Though John worked hard, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed farming, cattle, horses, dogs, traveling, reading, doing research on the internet and attending his grandchildren sporting events, school activities and religious functions. John was a patient man and father. He was a great teacher to his family and all who knew him. John was a life long member of the Knights of Columbus and past grand Knight. He participated in the forming of the Zeeland Rural Fire District and was a on the board of directors for 26 consecutive years. John was passionate about keeping the Zeeland Bar/Café open as a service for the community. He also served on the Lion’s Club, Elevator Board, Cenex Service Station and was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Cyrella and his five daughters and three son-in-laws; Bernie Engelhart, Camas, WA, Nora Andy Jangula, Bismarck, ND, Rose Daniel Senger, Bismarck, ND, Annette Engelhart, Bismarck, ND, and Janet Engelhart Rick Meyer, Breckenridge, MN; four sons and three daughters-in-laws; Donald Laure Engelhart, Bismarck, ND, Ronald Susan Engelhart, Zeeland, ND, Neal Engelhart, Zeeland ND, and Justin Janet Engelhart, Zeeland, ND; two step children, Randy Stacey Wangler, Bismarck, ND, and Tammy Tom Barduson, Danvers, MN; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, three sisters and four brothers-in-laws, Delores William Streifel, Aberdeen, SD, Marcie Calvin Zundel, San Luis Obispo, CA, Benita Dwain Peterson, Fargo, ND, Francis Marcella Streifel, Bismarck, ND, his mother-in-law Julia Gross, Bismarck, ND, two sister-in-laws, Eileen Krumm, Bismarck, ND, Phyllis Joe Silbernagel, Bismarck, ND, and one brother-in-law Tony Brenda Marquart, West Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his first wife Rosella; his parents, John and Magdalena Engelhart; and his sister, Marie Streifel. John’s family extends their sincere thanks to the staff of St. Alexius Hospice for their tender care. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. John’s Rural Cemetery Fund.
