Kurt Schreiner

Kurt R. Schreiner, 27, Bismarck, died January 6, 2009. Services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at United Church of Christ, Bismarck, with Rev. James Moos officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Monday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Kurt was born in Bismarck, ND, January 6, 1982, the son of Lance and Phyllis St. John Schreiner. He attended Highland Acres Elementary, Cathedral and graduated in 2000 from Century High School. Kurt went on to attend NDSU for his first year of college where he was a member of TKE Fraternity. He moved to Tampa, Florida and attended and graduated from Hillsborough Community College. He then moved to Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota; during this time he studied abroad in Mexico for a summer where he became fluent in Spanish. He graduated from U of M in 2006. Following graduation he was employed by Home Depot and Urban Escapes in Minneapolis. Recently, he had moved back to Bismarck and was employed by the Bistro. Kurt had a fond love for the outdoors including golfing, hunting, snowboarding, and skiing. One of his biggest passions was traveling, especially internationally. He loved music, food, and cooking. But...most of all his biggest love was for people. Kurt had a charisma that touched everyone he met. He had a special gift to be a friend to any person no matter how young or old. In his earlier years, Kurt's love for skiing took him to the Jr. Olympic Ski Camp in Mt. Hood, OR. He also enjoyed taekwondo, and like everything in his life he excelled at this and went to the Jr. Nationals in Los Angeles, CA. Everything Kurt did in his life was done to the fullest. He had an enormous love for animals. Over the years he had many pets but the love of his life was his current dog Ava. Kurt's loving family includes his father and best friend, Lance "Papa Duke" and mother, Phyllis “Mama” St. John Schreiner; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Kursten and Eric Dienert, Delayne and Mike Ballard; his grandmother, Yvonne Schreiner; his aunts and uncles, Ron and Celeste Schreiner, Pam Pearson, Scot Pearson, Randy and Becki St. John; his nephew, Christian Dienert and nieces, Kaily and Taylor Dienert; his cousins, Brady, Paul, and Laura Pearson, Aaron and Marlayna Schreiner, Travis and Jeffery St. John, Danielle Marvin and Heather St. John and Amber and Ashley St. John; his godparents, Hank and Bobbi Ripplinger; his dog, Ava; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his "Gramps" Ralph Schreiner; his grandfather, Herman St. John "Papa Colonel" and grandmother Clara Bow St. John; his uncles, John and Paul St. John and his hunting dogs, Peaches, Alyce, and Peggy Sue. Kurt will be dearly missed by all who loved him and he will forever remain in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for a memorial that will be established in Kurt’s name.
