Lawrence Larry Horning

Lawrence "Larry" David Horning, 63, of Bismarck, died unexpectedly March 6, 2014, doing what he loved, in Tacoma, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 N. Fourth St., Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, March 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, and will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Larry was born to George and Eleanore Hoffman Horning on August 6th, 1950 in Bismarck, ND. He was the oldest of 11 children. He grew up farming with his parents near Fort Yates. He graduated from Standing Rock Community High School in 1968. In his lifetime he was married to Katherine Kraft and had three children, Jamie, Andrew, and Michele. He later married Laurie Wald, his companion of 33 years, who brought her children, Jennifer and Corey into his life. Larry farmed, and was a trucker for 35 years, using the handle "Lonesome Drifter." He trucked for Jim Ressler, Morsette, Badger State Western, Budreck and lastly, his proudly owned H & H Express. For the past fifteen years he has driven a dedicated route between Chicago and Portland-Seattle. He has many friends throughout his route. Those who knew him say that Larry had a "heart of gold". When he took time off the road he loved to be outdoors in the garden, fishing, or hunting with friends and family. As his grandkids grew he was teaching them the ins and outs of shooting and hunting. He loved being with family. He is survived by Laurie Horning; children, Jamie Shelly, St. John, Andrew Marie, Lincoln; Michele Dale III Erickson, Rock Away Beach, MO; stepchildren, Jennifer Mallum, Mandan, Corey Kirsten Wald, Bismarck; Grandchildren, Anthony, Denae, and Trystin Horning, Theresa, Eleanore, Laura, Anne, and Michael Horning, Kirby, Dale IV, and Rae Ann Erickson, Sonora, and Medora Mallum; brothers and sisters, Kathleen Dwight Whitman, Dorothy Mark Rothschiller, George Kelly, Dennis Becky, Terry, Michael Eileen, Danny, Cammy Steven Fergeson Horning and Karl. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Patrick; and grandson, Isaac Horning.
