Lorraine E Masad

Lorraine W. E. Masad, 92, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015, at Sanford on Sunset Continuing Care Center, Mandan. Services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, January 12, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 E Turnpike, Bismarck, ND, with Rev. Timothy Jenks officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Sunday, January 11, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Lorraine was born April 2, 1922, to Gustav and Wilhelmina Altenburg Holze, on the family farm near Youngtown, ND. She was the oldest of five children including OLinda, Milton, Delphia, and Vianne. The family eventually moved to the Holze homestead just east of New Salem. Lorraine was confirmed on August 4, 1935, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Salem, ND. Her strong faith carried through all areas of her life. Lorraine was working for the ND Department of Motor Vehicles when she met Franklin Masad in November of 1943 in Bismarck, following his discharge from the Army. Shortly after that, Lorraine moved to Seattle, WA, and became a "Rosie the Riveter" working for Boeing. Frank followed her to Seattle and they were married July 2, 1944. They settled in Lodi, CA, where Lorraine worked in a fruit cannery. In 1950, they relocated to Bismarck. Lorraine and Frank had two daughters, Deborah and Valerie, and one son, Randy. In November 1958, they purchased the Holiday House in Mott, ND. They moved back to Bismarck in 2000 and in November 2013 relocated to Sanford on Sunset in Mandan. While living in Mott, Lorraine spent many an evening with the "bowling girls" at the Lucky Lanes Bowling Alley. She joined TOPS, eventually becoming the North Dakota TOPS Queen. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. But her greatest fulfillment came in the time she spent serving the Lord through her involvement with her friends in many church activities at Trinity Lutheran Church. Lorraine is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frankie; two daughters, Deborah Masad, Bismarck, and Valerie Wayne Albrecht, Hazen; one son, Randall Lori Masad, Columbia, SC; her sisters, OLinda Baldwin, Bismarck, Delphia Charles Nelson, formerly of Center, now of Mandan, Vianne Julius Brandt, New Salem; and her grandchildren, Vivian Rios, Bismarck, Ryan Albrecht, Tioga, Allison Albrecht, Sturgis, SD, Anthony Masad, Spirit Lake, IA, and Christopher Masad, Minneapolis, MN; and her very special friend, Ruby Johnson, Mott. She was preceded in death by her infant son; her mother and father, Gustav and Wilhelmina Holze; and her brother, Milton. The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers at Sanford for their care of Lorraine.
