Luella Hins

Luella Hins, 72, Tappen, died July 18, 2004, at her daughter's home in rural Tappen. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tappen with the Rev. William Russow officiating. Burial will be at Fisher Cemetery in Tappen. Visitation will be Friday July 23, from 6 pm - 8 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church where a prayer service will be held at 8 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Luella Helen Kemmet was born on May 10, 1932, south of Dawson, North Dakota, the daughter of Christopher and Ida Werre Kemmet. She grew up and attended school in Tappen, North Dakota. On February 23, 1949, she married Reuben Hins at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tappen. They farmed near Medina until 1954, when they moved to Tappen. They owned and operated Tappen People's Store until 1965. For twenty-two years, Luella cared for her daughter, Mae, who was injured in an accident. Luella enjoyed bowling, playing pool, games, cards especially pinochle, doing puzzles, and loved reading. Due to her love of music, she taught herself to play the accordion, trumpet, clarinet, and harmonica. She enjoyed playing basketball and baseball with her children. After one of her nephews began calling her HoHo, it quickly became her favorite nickname. She is survived by her husband, Reuben of Tappen; her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Roger Hasse; her sons and daughters-in-law, Cory and Connie Hins of Montgomery, Alabama, Tim and Margaret Hins of Bemidji, Minnesota, Kirby and Rita Hins of Milbank, South Dakota, and Lance and Cheri Hins of Steele, North Dakota; her sisters, Eldora Schneider of Turtle Lake, North Dakota, and Bernice Kemmet of St. Paul, Minnesota; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Karen Kemmet of Alexandria, Virginia, Ronnie and Bev Kemmet of Aitkin, Minnesota, Bob and Sandi Kemmet of New Brighton, Minnesota, Curtis and Gloria Kemmet of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Randy and Denise Kemmet of Moorhead, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Karissa, Laura, and Jennifer Hasse, Lance, Travis, and Calin Hins, Trevor, Mari, and Michaela Hins, Andrea, Jordan, and William Hins, Zane Osse and his wife, Laura, and Candice and Melissa Hins; and her great-grandchildren, Orin and Kyah Osse, and Arianna Hins. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Melinda and Mae Hins; and grandson, Ross Hasse.
