Lyle E Hoffer

Lyle E. Hoffer, 61, Bismarck, ND, died Friday, December 21, 2012, in the arms of his daughter at his home. Services will be held at 12:30 pm Friday, December 28, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Gary Heaton officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, December 27, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Lyle was born April 19, 1951, in Harvey, ND, to Arnold and Bertha Klingman Hoffer. He was raised on the family farm near Kief. He graduated from Drake High School in 1969. In 1971 he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1973. On September 3, 1976 Lyle married Lylia Carlson. He worked as a laborer on many of the power plants as well as working for H.C. Smith on the missile silos until 1979 when he went to East Grand Forks AVTI studying diesel mechanics. After graduating from college in 1981 he went to work for a bus company in Minot, ND and fell in love with bus mechanics. His love of buses sent him out of state for work to California twice and Wisconsin. In 1992 he and his family moved to Stanley, ND where he worked his remaining years as the school bus mechanic for a fleet of 16 buses until he hurt his back and became disabled in 2006. He and his wife moved to Bismarck in 2006 for a few years until they decided that the Arizona sun would probably help his health and made the move across country in 2011. He enjoyed spending quality time with his whole family in Arizona but could not handle the heat. In August of this year, he and his wife moved back to Bismarck. On October 1st Lyle was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. Lyle enjoyed reading westerns, especially Louis L'Amour, watching the History Channel and was interested in all things gold prospecting, even trying his hand at panning for gold in SD and AZ. Honored to have shared his life are his wife of 36 years, Lylia, Bismarck, ND; his son, Jayson Lisa Gilbert, AZ; his daughter, Nicole Fischer, Mesa, AZ; sisters, Sharon Hoffer, Sandy Bob Frantsvog, Lynnette Rick Stensby all of Minot, ND, Elaine Hartzell, Helena, MT; brothers, Loren Anita and Joel Rae of Minot, ND; sister-in-law , Sandy Hoffer, Mandan, ND; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Bredine, Towner, ND. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ty Gavin Fischer; his father, Arnold and his mother Bertha; brother, Jeffrey Hoffer; sisters, Karen Bredine, Margaret Rogers, Linda Clouse; nephew Robert Frantsvog, Jr.; niece Deanna Woods; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Arthur and Doris Carlson.
