Matthias "Matt" Zimprich

Matthias “Matt” Zimprich, 79, Bismarck, died May 26, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm Monday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Matt was born on March 16, 1931, in Vikousi, Yugoslavia, now Croatia, to Emil and Anna Bader Zimprich. In 1944, the family left the family farm and moved to Austria and spent the next eleven years living in Hedgedorf, Canton and Graz, where Matt worked as a lift operator for construction companies. They moved to the United States in September of 1955, arriving in New York on the S.S. General Langfitt. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he worked as a butcher. On April 15, 1961, he married the love of his life, Ludwina Halter. Together, they had two wonderful sons born in California. In 1965, Matt and Ludwina relocated to Bismarck and started Zimprich Trucking where they were partners for 20 years. This business evolved into other very successful family business ventures. He loved to travel with his wife, learning and experiencing the different cultures throughout the world. Some of the places he and Ludwina traveled to included all 50 states, Panama, Australia, Bahamas, Mexico, Sweden, Canada, New Zealand, Greece, Europe, and numerous other destinations. The last trip they made together was to Egypt in November of 2008. Matt was also a member of the Eagles Club and a faithful member of Church of Corpus Christi for over 25 years. Matt enjoyed BBQing, spending time in the yard, camping, and water skiing with his sons. Some of his other favorite pastimes included working on his fruit trees and grape vines and enjoying the numerous flower and vegetable gardens in the yard. Matt and Ludwina liked to dance the polka, waltz and tango and to spend time with friends. Matt’s biggest passion in life was his wife, sons, and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Matt was a very kind, generous, and compassionate person who will be missed dearly by his two sons, Robert Janet, White Bear Lake, MN, and Erwin Kathy, Bismarck, ND; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Peter Zimprich, all of Cottage Grove, MN; his sister, Marie Kendl, Toronto, Ontario, Cananda; his brother, Franz Zimprich, LaPalma, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ludwina; his parents, Emil and Anna Zimprich; and his sisters, Rosemarie Zimprich and Ava Gettel Zimprich. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Corpus Christi Youth Fund.
