Maurice Stockert

It was on December 25, 1959 that Maurice James Stockert was born to Leo C. and Catherine D. Stockert and on August 6, 2008 that Maurice died and in so doing fulfilled his destiny on this earth. Maurice goes forth from this place to be reunited with his father, Leo Carl Stockert, and a nephew, Eric Stockert, who preceded Maurice in death. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with Rev. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck with a rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. We, the family of Maurice, will draw both inspiration and strength from the example that Maurice set while he was here on earth with us. His was a difficult life filled with 25 years of paraplegia and the pain and suffering that comes with this affliction. Yet, without complaint, Maurice bravely endured this cross and accepted this and other debilitating handicaps in his life. His child like faith and love for all people brought him into contact with many people who liked Maurice’s friendly ways and admired Maurice for his courage, strength and generosity. Maurice’s favorite thing was to drive his car or to wheel down to the restaurant in his wheelchair to talk to the many people who will now miss his ever-cheerful attitudes and simple gifts. Maurice now stands in front of God and walks and talks with his father in heaven, never again to feel the pain of not being able to stand, walk, run, or dance like many ordinary people do that are not afflicted in this manner. Maurice wants to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and all other medical professionals who have assisted him through the years in making his life a little more bearable. We, the family want to especially thank all of the people at the Marion Manor in Glen Ullin North Dakota for all of their kindness and care as well. So, from the Stockert family to all of you who have played a part in making Maurice’s life a little more bearable we send a heartfelt thank you on behalf of Maurice James Stockert. Maurice is survived by his stepfather, Henry Martin and mother, Catherine D. Stockert-Martin, Bismarck, ND; 13 brothers and sisters, Donna and Ronald Vetter, McKenzie, ND, Lawrence D. Stockert, Bismarck, ND, Linda and Wayne Adams, Reynolds, ND, Gerard and RaeDean Stockert, Bloomington, MN, Patricia and Bruce Deviney, O’Fallon, MO, Sandra and Rodger Erickson, McKenzie, ND, Michael and Theresa Stockert, Bismarck, ND, Paul and Crystal Stockert, Mandan, ND, Jeffrey and Kathy Stockert, Mandan, ND, Brenda Stockert and Donnie Wald, Bismarck, ND, Keven Stockert and Cari Cunningham, Bismarck ND, Brian and Stacy Stockert, Bismarck, ND, and Jeanine and Tim Verasca, Monroe Twsp, NJ; 28 nephews and nieces, 21 great nephews and nieces, and one great-great nephew and one great-great niece, together with 37 other members of his family related to him through marriage. He therefore has been sent to God with the prayers and blessings of all of the 101 members of his surviving family.
