Michael Hovrud

Michael John Hovrud, 41, Bismarck, went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2007. Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Keith Spurgin officiating. Burial will be held at 12:00 noon at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, with a reception immediately following the burial at the Mandan Eagles. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Michael was born in Riverside, CA, on April 3, 1966, son of Martha and Edwin Hovrud. The son of an Air Force father, Michael spent much of his younger years growing up in Minot, ND, where he graduated from Minot High School in 1985 with a varsity letter in football. Michael was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served during Operation Desert Storm in the Military Police. He was also a proud current member of the North Dakota Army National Guard. Michael and Marie Metcalf were married on October 27, 2003. Although their time together was short, their love is everlasting. Michael worked for the North Dakota Department of Correction and Rehabilitation for ten years and he had just begun a new career working for the North Dakota Army National Guard full time. He had many hobbies including hunting, skiing, golfing, bowling, softball, and so much more. Michael's greatest loves in life were his wife and children, his dog Samantha, his friends, and the great outdoors. Mike loved all things involving hunting, it was truly his passion. The only thing he loved more than going on a hunt was shooting his bow for hours or planning his next hunt with friends. Michael was a people person. He could never go anywhere without seeing someone he knew or somehow making new friends along the way. He would want his friends to know how much he loved them all. Michael's greatest accomplishment in life was his children of whom he was so very proud and loved so much. Most of all, Michael had a wonderful soul and was a truly loving husband and friend. He will be missed more than words can say. He is survived by his wife, Marie Hovrud of Bismarck; his children, Austin and Shaina Hovrud of Mandan; his brothers, Edwin Hovrud Colleen of Prior Lake, MN, and Mark Hovrud Sandy of Charlotte, NC; and his sisters, Diana Schierkolk of Sanford, NC, Susan Spurgin Keith of Wylie, TX, Julie Hovrud Bruce of Raleigh, NC, Denise Duchsherer Leo of Minot, ND, Danita Shreve Hal of Raleigh, NC, and Nancy Whitmarsh of Angier, NC. He is also survived by eight nephews; fourteen nieces; four great-nephews; and seven great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Hovrud and his mother, Martha Hovrud.
