Richard Ryan

Richard D. Ryan, 57, Bismarck, died January 25, 2007 at St. Alexius Medical Center. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at Century Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Gordon Stork officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Saturday and from 1-8 PM Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Rick was born on October 17, 1949, in Minot, ND, the son of Richard and Sidona Holter Ryan. He grew up and attended school in Minot graduating from Minot High School in 1968. Rick served in the United States Marine Corp for 9 years attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. On October 14, 1974, he married Barbara Tracy in Rockwell, TX. In 1985 they moved to Minot where Rick worked with Veterans Programs transferring to Bismarck in September of 1988. Soon after moving to Bismarck, he became the State Director of Veterans Employment Training Services. Rick was active in many different Veterans Organizations serving as Past Commander, American Legion Post #1, Past Commander, Disabled American Veterans, Adam Klein Chapter #3, Past State Commander, North Dakota Disabled American Veterans, Member of the AMVETS Post #9, Associate Member of the Paralyzed Veterans of American, Past Secretary of the North Dakota Administrative Committee on Veterans Affairs, Served on the National LVER/DVOP Steering Committee, and was a Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was active in various ministries at Century Baptist Church. Rick was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed fantasy football. He loved his family, especially his grandkids. Rick is survived by his wife Barbara, Bismarck, ND; his daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Brad Beaver, Mansfield, TX, and their children, Gary, Christian, Brittany, and Cherokee; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Jim and Angela Ryan, Overland Park, KS, and their children, Kirstin and Andrew, and son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Missy Ryan, Bismarck, ND, and their children, Morgan and Gabrielle; his mother, Sidona Ryan, Bismarck, ND; one sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Dave Dodge, Vancouver, WA; one brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Virginia Ryan, Elk River, MN; and one nephew, Jerome Ryan. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; and a nephew, Shannon Ryan.
