Robert Mooney

Robert Mooney, 82, Bismarck, died July 22, 2008 at Medcenter One Hospital. Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck with Rev. Walter Schott officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Robert James Mooney was born May 9, 1926, the son of Frank and Emma Reitch Mooney. Upon graduating from Bismarck High School in 1944, he entered the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Marty Martin in 1947. In 1954, he went to work at the First National Bank and retired as Vice President in 1981. Robert was a member of the Bismarck area Chamber of Commerce, Bismarck-Mandan Homebuilders Assoc., Bismarck Board of Realtors, Missouri Valley Chapter of the Americas Institute of Banking. He is a past president of Central ND Chapter of Bankers Administration Institute and the Dakota Zoological Society of which he was still an honorary director. He was chairman of the Burleigh County Social Service Board for 12 years. In 2000 he was Commander of the VFW and Quartermaster before that. He was on several boards also and past secretary treasurer of the Exchange Club. Robert graduated from the Wisconsin School of Banking. He was a member of the Elks, life member of the VFW, member of Amvets, American Legion and 40 et 8. He is survived by his wife, Marty of Bismarck; his son, Robert “Bob” Mooney, Jr, of Bismarck, ND; his daughter, Karen Kramer of Bismarck, ND; his grandchildren, Matt Mooney, Heather and Dan Churchill, Bridget and Travis Albrecht, Michael Mooney, Jason and Heather Kramer, Kari and Rob Ramsdell and his great-grandchildren, James, Olivia, Sophia and Joseph Churchill, Tyler Kramer and Chandler and Carley Ramsdell; his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Robert “Booty” Boutrous; his brother, Joseph Mooney and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald. Memorials may be given to the Dakota Zoo, Sertoma Park Road, Bismarck, 58504 or to the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, 1825 46th St. Mandan, 58554.
