Shirley Fettig-Teply

Shirley Ann Fettig-Teply, 53, Bismarck, went with the Lord on February 7, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Winckler officiating and 3:00 PM Saturday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Wishek, with the Rev. Marty Toepke-Floyd officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Wishek. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday and 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM Friday evening. Shirley was born February 14, 1952, in Eureka, South Dakota, daughter of William and Amanda Boschee Fetzer. Shirley was raised in Wishek, North Dakota. She attended and graduated from Wishek Public School then proceeded to Jack's Hair Styling Beauty School wherein she graduated. Shirley married Valentine Fettig in Napoleon on June 5, 1971. They were blessed with their only child, Ryan Lee on November 26, 1974. They lived on the Fettig family farm until 1979, and then they moved closer to Wishek on the Fetzer farm. In 1990, Valentine's life was unexpectantly taken in a work related accident. Shirley moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, where she worked at the State Capitol from November 1990 until she became too ill in October 2002. While she worked for the state she received recognition with the "Suggestion Incentive Award" given by Gov. John Hoeven in September 2001. After moving to Bismarck she married Jack A. Teply on November 28, 1992. Upon marrying Jack she became step-mother to four beautiful children, Matthew, Nathan, Josephine Josie, and Jacob. Jack was taken from Shirley after losing his battle with cancer in 1997. Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and friends and had a passion for NASCAR, Elvis and GTOs. Shirley never lost her faith or her ability to keep her chin up, regardless what hand she was dealt. Throughout her eight-year cancer battle, she always pushed forward, never giving up until the end. Shirley always continued to put up a fight and put on a smile, regardless of her prognosis. Her faith and her sense of humor seemed to outweigh the times that came her way. Shirley is survived by her son, Ryan Michelle Fettig Bismarck; step-children, Matthew Missy Teply Tennessee, Nathan JenniferTeply Alabama, Josephine Teply South Dakota, Jacob Teply South Dakota; grandson, Ethan Ryan Fettig; step-grandson, Saul Teply; siblings, Melvin Miriam Fetzer Wishek, Oliver Virgina Bettenhausen Wishek, Lawrence Gerrie Lippert Williston, Robert Fetzer Wiskek, Roland Lorraine Ketterling Bismarck, Eugene JoAnn Fetzer Williston, Milton Sherry Fetzer Castle Rock, CO, and Timothy Jean Fetzer Shakopee, MN. She was preceded in death by Valentine Fettig and Jack Teply both husbands. William and Amanda Boschee Fetzer father & mother, Harley Sandy Fetzer brother & sister-in-law; and great niece, Andrea Leining. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Ronald McDonald House, Bismarck.
