Shirley A Schlabach

Shirley A. Schlabach, 66, died peacefully July 18, 2013, at St. Alexius Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 am CDT on Monday, July 22, 2013, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, exit #157, Bismarck. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, ND. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Shirley Ann Schlafman was born May 11, 1947, in Bismarck, to Otto and Ruby Schlafman. She attended school at Bismarck High School graduating in 1965. Shirley attended the National College of Business in Rapid City, SD from 1965-1966 and began working at Dakota National Bank. On August 11, 1967, Shirley married Ross Schlabach. They lived in Glendive, MT, where Ross was employed with MDU. In February 1968 Ross left to serve in Vietnam and Shirley returned to Bismarck to work at Dakota National Bank. When Ross returned from Vietnam in September 1969, the couple returned to Glendive where their first son, Michael, was born. In the Fall of 1971, Ross and Shirley moved to Williston, ND. While there, their second child, Tamara, was born. They returned to Glendive in the Fall of 1973 and their third child, Scott, was born in 1974. Ross continued to work at MDU until his recent retirement in 2012. Shirley worked for several employers including First National Bank, Cross Petroleum, and most recently Sylvan Clinic. The thing that brought Shirley the most joy was watching her children and grandchildren grow up. She also kept a special place in her heart for her extended family Matthew, Christopher, Brittany and Josh. She loved baking, working with crafts, decorating for the holidays all year round, camping, skiing and following her children and grandchildren to all of their sports and activities. Shirley was a special person and had a way of making everyone around her feel special. Shirley is survived by her husband Ross; two sons, Michael Michelle Schlabach, Gilbert, AZ, and Scott Christy Schlabach, Tucson, AZ; her daughter, Tamara Guesanburu and her special friend Chad Bondurant, Gillette, WY; six grandchildren, Cody, Katie and Rachel Schlabach, Hailey and Matthew Schlabach and Lexi Guesanburu, her extended family Matthew and Christopher Iba and Brittany and Josh Miller; her mother-in-law, Irma Schlabach, Bismarck; her sister, Pam Vollmuth, Stanton; two brother-in-laws, Larry Starla Schlabach, Bismarck, Leonard Kathy Schlabach, Bismarck; and one sister-in-law, Cheryl Vernon Martell, Bismarck; also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Ruby Schlafman; her sister, Sandy Schlafman; her father-in-law, Rex Schlabach; her brother-in-law, Thomas Vollmuth; and two nephews, Allen and Kristopher Vollmuth.
