Stanley G Vold

Stanley G. Vold, 84, Bismarck, died Sunday, December 12, 2010. Services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Gary Heaton officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veteranï¿½s Cemetery, Mandan, at 3:00 pm. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Stanley was born June 24, 1926 in Grand Forks, ND, as the only son of Melvin and Gena Nelson Vold. He entered the military and served during World War II. Stanley was a gas and diesel mechanic in the Parshall area, where he married Myrtle Rood and acquired an immediate family of three daughters and two sons. The family moved to Chicago, IL, where Stanley continued his mechanic work and began his pigeon racing to go on to win numerous trophies. They returned to North Dakota in 1968 and farmed near Parshall and Makoti. Stanley married Elvice Kinneberg in 1983, their relationship stemmed from when they were teenagers and went on their first date, and thereby became a stepfather to two daughters and three grand children. Stanley and Elvice made their home in Dickinson before moving to Bellingham, WA. After a short time in Phoenix, AZ, they returned to Dickinson, ND, where Stanley was in charge of all the District School buses. Due to Stanleyï¿½s health condition, they made their home in Bismarck. Stanley was a nationally recognized pigeon racer, and had friends all over the nation. He had a tremendous love for animals, which he raised throughout the years. As one of the last true cowboys, he and his cousin Elwood owned and managed rodeo grounds near Grand Forks. He was a member of the 7th Calvary and participated in many rodeos and cross country trail rides. Stanley loved the prairie and the Badlands of ND. Those blessed to be a part of his life include, his wife, Elvice, Bismarck; his children, Angela Luke and Cathy Kinneberg, Bellingham, WA, Dale Connie Rood, Parshall, Ken Susan Rood, Bismarck, Dick Sharon Rood, Davis, IL, Berniece Gordon Huus, Parshall, Barb Vold, Scottsdale, AZ; ; his grandchildren, Courtney Luke, Breanna Luke, Dan Luke, Robin Julie Rood, Katie Justin Baker Rood, Clint Rood, Elizabeth Alexander Simon, Adam Kristi Vetter Rood , Dean Nicole Rood, Rob Cari Rood, Lisa Rood, Rebecca Rood, Debbie Barry Renner , Tom Huus, Cynthia Marvin Feist, Jason Jennifer Huus , Rhonda Craig Schreiber, Renae Jestila, JR Michelle Vold, Rochelle Tim Thomas, and Jennifer Stephens; his great-grandchildren, Kaydyn Luke, Grace and Ariana Rood, Raya and Jordyn Rood, Sierra and Tristan Rood, Ethan Rood, Jeremy Huus , Valerie Huus , Kayla Feist, McKenzie, Kierra and Justice Huus, Aaron Schreiber, Alexis, Zachary Schreiber, Tatum Jestila, Juliette Vold, McKenna and Joseph Thomas, Samuel and Natania Stephens, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marilyn, Alice and Ila, granddaughter, Kristi Johnson, and former wife, Myrtle Waldock.
