Aasta Brusven

Aasta Egge Brusven, 98, passed away December 18, 2009 at The Life Center in Des Moines, IA with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held Monday 11:00 a.m., December 28, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Aasta was born in Mayville North Dakota to Emma and Otto Egge. After graduating from Mayville College, she married Walter R. Brusven, who preceded her in death 1988. She and Walt taught in Wing, ND, until they moved to Morenci, AZ during WWII. After the War they moved to Bismarck where they owned Midway Furniture Mart. Aasta remained in Bismarck until October 2007 when, because of ill health, she moved to The Life Center to be close to her family. Aasta was known for her great love of music. She was a member of Thursday Music Club and State President of the Federation of Music Clubs of North Dakota. She directed the Trinity Lutheran Children’s Choir for almost 40 years and she loved to sing with her friends in the Golden Kiwanis Club. During winters spent in Mesa, AZ Aasta directed choirs at Brentwood West and sang in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Choir. She enjoyed being a member of the Sons of Norway and playing the omnichord and singing for groups with her friend Eleanor Bothman. Aasta and Walt established the Walter and Aasta Brusven Family Scholarship at Mayville State University. She was a major supporter of both the Ruth Meier’s Hospitality House and Med Center One in Bismarck. Aasta was a lively person who entertained and engaged all she met. She had so many wonderful friends in Bismarck and Mesa. The family would like to thank them and the staff and friends at the Waterford and Trinity Lutheran Church. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jon Torgerson; grandchildren Erik Angela Torgerson and Christine Denis Marchand; great-granddaughters Sophie, Ava, and Sydney Aasta., all of the Des Moines, IA area; her sister-in-law Eleanor Egge, Edina, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 8 brothers and sisters.
