Abraham Potgieter

Abraham Potgieter was born January 3, 1987, in South Africa to Neels and Babsie Potgieter. He attended Agricultural High School at Morgenson and stayed in hostel. He also attended a Christian support group called “Working People” where he made many friends. Abraham was a happy, enthusiastic and cheerful person. His life revolved around his family and friends, whom he always put first before him. His Grandfather played a big role in Abraham’s life since 1998. He enjoyed spending time with and helping his Mom. He was willing to do anything for her and even purchased a trip to Europe for her, because he wanted her to enjoy it. Abraham loved spending time with his brother Dirk, who were inseparable and were also known as the "mean team" by his mom, when they worked together on their family farm. They also enjoyed fishing, bar-b-quing and riding bike in the mountains. Abraham came over to the United States for the past three years to do seasonal work in North Dakota. He became a part of the Mock family. He wasn’t only close to the immediate family but also got to know uncles, aunts and cousins, and enjoyed visiting during the many family get-togethers. We learned here that Abraham had a sweet tooth!! Abraham was a very dedicated and hard worker, making sure that everything was done to his expectations, even if he had to do it over many times. He had a smile on his face all the time and sometimes even a devilish grin. He was a talented artist and wrote some awesome poems, which we were lucky enough to have him share with us. He enjoyed going to town and playing pool with Dawie and the other friends he made in North Dakota. He also enjoyed helping out at the threshing grounds in the fall of the year. He had a love for animals. He adopted a cat he called Squishy and also for a short time took in a baby Hawk that he found. It was a privilege getting to know Abraham for the three years that he was here and is difficult to say good-bye. He will truly be missed! He touched everyone he came in contact with. Abraham is survived by his mother, Babsie; brother, Dirk; and his grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Neels; and his grandmother.
