Alden Joe Ankenbauer

Alden Joe Ankenbauer, 86, Bismarck, died January 17, 2013, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, January 22, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Rebecca Aardahl officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Alden was born May 29, 1926, on the family farm west of Kenmare, ND, the son of Earl and Edith Dollahon Ankenbauer. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school in the area. Alden married Carol Dickerson on September 7, 1948, in Kenmare, ND. Alden was drafted into the Army in 1953 to the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was awarded the National Defense Service medal, Korean Service medal, United Nations Service medal and a Good Conduct medal. He worked in the Ankenbauer Coal Mine for a time, worked as a Lineman for 30 years for MDU and farmed until 1986. Alden enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, watching old western movies, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of VFW Post #7049. Alden is survived by his wife Carol; his children, Jeffery Robin Ankenbauer, Mandan, ND, Lori Joel Lawson, Minot, ND, David Colleen Ankenbauer, Maryville, TN, and Mari Dennis Dean, San Tan Valley, AZ; his grandchildren, Lindsey Ankenbauer Sean, Chad Jensen, Jackie Ankenbauer Josh, Tia Knutson Shawn, Lora Casey St. Croix, JorDan Lawson, Joe C. Ankenbauer, David Ankenbauer, Jr., Shauntae Ankenbauer, Christopher Shanna Dean, and Marshall Rebecca Dean and his great-grandchildren, Benjamin Cato, Evan Jensen, Dylan Knutson, Paige Durward, Logan Durward, Cade Pederson, Alex Dean, Caleb Dean, Ella Dean, Jerzee St. Croix, Jagger St. Croix, Bervella Schmalz, and Jorey Adams; his brothers, Robert Ruth Ankenbauer, Vancouver, WA, John Dorothy Ankenbauer, Kenmare, ND; his sisters, Margaret Jones, Portland, OR, and Shirley Don Duff, Maplewood, MN; his brother-in-law, Leland Briggle, Silver Spring, MD; sisters-in-law, Vivian Ankenbauer, Mesa, AZ, and Theresa Ankenbauer, Kenmare, ND. Alden was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Richard, Berlin, Foster, and Forest; his sisters, Doreen Bushey and Mary Berney; brothers-in-law, Harold Schletty, Loyd Berney, and R.S. Jones; and sisters-in-law, Harriet Briggle and Joy Ankenbauer; and his very special dog, Tracy.
