Alvin Schell

Alvin Schell, 73, Bismarck, died April 2, 2010, at the Baptist Nursing Home, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Chris Alexander and Rev. Clyde Zimbelman officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Alvin was born in Mercer, ND, on June 2, 1936, to John and Ida Gaub Schell. He received his education at a farm school near Mercer, and he finished his education in Bismarck. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Church, Mercer, ND. Alvin began his working career in the Piggly Wiggly produce dept., working there 1954-1956. He then started at John Deere in 1956, as a truck driver. He married the love of his life, Mavis Richards of Hazelton, on August 18, 1956, in Bismarck. They had four children. Alvin lived in Bismarck all of his life. He continued his career at John Deere in parts and sales. In 1984, John Deere was sold to Ron Kibble of Mankota, MN, at that time Alvin managed the Bismarck location. He retired from John Deere in 1988. Alvin then went to work for Washburn Implement in 1988 until 1991, at which time he went to work for General Equipment, finally retiring for good in 2001. Upon retirement, Alvin had a series of health problems and entered the Baptist Home in 2007. Alvin loved to laugh and his laugh was contagious. He always had a joke or story to tell. He was full of life; he loved his wife, family and grandchildren very much. If you couldn’t see Alvin you’d know where he was, because he was always whistling. Alvin loved to dance, bowl, shoot darts, and cook. He made the best beef noodle soup, making homemade noodles. He always wanted a Harley, but settled for his moped. Alvin was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served on the board, taught Sunday school and was a Sunday school supervisor. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge, the Eagles Club, and the Elks Club. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mavis, Bismarck; his children, Rhonda Duane Schlichenmayer, Bismarck, Ranette Art Fisher, Fargo, Blaine Brenda Schell, Bismarck and RoxAnne Mark Friese, Argusville; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Fisher fiance, Tina Mathiason, Nikita Fisher, Medora Schell, Kodi Schell fiance, TJ Schmidt, Nevada Schell, Dakota Schell, Jennifer Friese, Jerica Friese and Carson Friese; three brothers, Ervin Eileen Schell, Mercer, Richard Doris Schell, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Don Linda Schell, Detroit Lakes, MN; two sisters, Lenora Stanley Thompson, Bismarck, and Ann Rueben Schoepp, Bismarck; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, John Loretta Richards, Hazelton, Fred Richards, Bismarck, Marvin Patty Richards, Bismarck, and Gary Valerie Richards, Bismarck; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his brother, Gene Schell; an infant sister, Eldora Schell; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; two brothers-in-law, Edward Richards and Albert Richards; and sister-in-law, Jean Richards. We love you and will miss you! You were the best husband, dad, and grandpa in the world. The family would like to thank the staff at the Baptist Home for the great care provided to Alvin over the past three years.
