Alwina Cline

Alwina Cline, 90, Centennial, CO, died February 4, 2008. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck with Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Alwina Barbara Giese was born July 3, 1917 in Pollock, SD, the daughter of Frederick and Christina Fehr Giese. She attended rural schools in Pollock, high school in MacIntosh, SD and the last two years at Minot Normal High School in Minot, ND in 1938. Alwina worked at a dairy farm northwest of Minot during the summers of 1936 - 1937. She received her teaching certificate from Minot State Teacher's College in 1939. Following graduation, she taught for two years at Wildrose School district near Moffit, ND. Alwina married Dedrick Milton Doehle on April 12, 1940 in Bismarck, ND. They lived on a farm near Moffit from 1941-1946. Dedrick died in 1946. Alwina taught school in Moffit from 1952 -1955. She married Leslie Earl Cline on June 1, 1955 in Bismarck, ND, where they lived. Leslie died in 1965. Alwina continued living in Bismarck until 2002, when she moved to Centennial CO, until the present. Alwina enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading. She worked from her home doing tailoring and dressmaking from 1964 - 1978. She also enjoyed traveling and visited most of the states as well as, Mexico, Canada, England, Ireland and Wales. Alwina believed in the good German values; honesty, loyalty, hard work, more hard work, trust in God, don't complain too much and deal with what life throws at you. She was a member of the McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, Parents without Partners and an informal sewing group. Alwina is survived by her daughter, Barbara Horgan and her husband, William of Hot Springs Village, AR; her son, Leslie Cline and his wife, Nancy of Sunnyvale, CA; her grandchildren, Christina Horgan of Concord, NC, Amy Horgan of Carolina Beach, NC, Michael Danielle Horgan of Madison, WI, Rebecca Steven Sautter of Mountain View, CA and Steven Cline of Sunnyvale, CA; and her sister, Edna Wonderly of Oakland, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, D. Milton Doehle and Leslie Cline; her brothers, Henry Giese, Carl Giese and John Giese and her sister, Emma Whitman. Memorials may be given to McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 N 6th Street, Bismarck, ND 58501.
