Amy P Rude

Amy Priscilla Rude, 88, died June 11, 2011, at Medcenter One Mandan Living Center. Services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, June 22, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Roger Will officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, June 21, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Amy was born March 2, 1923, at Volga, SD, the daughter of Alfred A. and Clara Nelson Rude. She was educated in Grand Forks, ND, and graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls, MN, in 1941. She graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN, in 1948. From 1949 – 1952, she attended Prairie Bible Institute at Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. She worked at Grand Forks Deaconess Hospital for two years, then in 1954, studied at the Summer Institute of Linguistics at UND sponsored by Wycliffe Bible Translators. In 1955, Amy studied at the Lutheran Brethren Bible School in Fergus Falls, MN. The summer of 1956 was spent at the Linguistic Institute at the University of Oklahoma. She applied to WBT and was accepted as a Wycliffe member in 1956. In January of 1958, Amy flew to WBT's jungle center called Yarinacocha in Peru, where she served nine years as a missionary. She loved this time in her life and the jungle people. She worked at St. Alexius Hospital for two years, then at St. Vincent's Nursing Home for 17 years. She received a plaque for 15 years of dedicated service and was Nurse of the Year on one occasion. Amy was a member of Evangel Temple Church, Christian Women's Club, Dakota Women's Retreat and Wycliffe Bible Translators. She enjoyed church activities, and the yearly mission conventions in Bismarck. Amy was interested in learning about current events in the U.S. and overseas, treasured many friends, enjoyed her avocation of nursing, and dearly loved all her patients. Leisure time found her reading her Bible, good magazines and books, listening to Christian music and attending concerts. During her early years, Amy enjoyed singing in choirs in high school, nursing school, and Bible College. She enjoyed amateur photography, basketball games, good clean humor, and playing Scrabble. In Peru, she especially enjoyed the 200 children, who called her Tia Auntie Amalia. Amy is survived by two sisters: Mildred Nelson, Bismarck, Evelyn, Greenville, SC; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Vivien Rude, Grand Forks, and Ervin and Katherine Rude, Bellingham, WA; a special niece, Joan Jeff Auch and their two sons, Eric and Tanner; four nieces, nine nephew, many cousins, and many dear friends in Bismarck and Grand Forks, ND, and all over the world! Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Clara; brother-in-law, Howard Nelson; one brother:Earl, three nieces.
