Ann Johs

Ann Johs, 85, Bismarck, formerly of Napoleon, died peacefully on December 29, 2008, at her home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009, at 10:30 AM at Church of St. Anne in Bismarck with Rev. Ed Wehner and Rev. Tom Richter officiating. Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery south of Napoleon at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a Catholic Daughters Rosary and vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Ann was born on February 12, 1923, in Emmons County, the daughter of Markus and Helen Marquart Gefre. She grew up and attended school in rural Hague. Ann married John J. Johs on October 30, 1944. They farmed in rural Napoleon until moving to Bismarck in 1973. She was a member of the Church of St. Anne as well as Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidering, and playing pinochle with her grandkids. She also enjoyed caring for her children, grandkids, and provided daycare for many children throughout the years. Ann is survived by one son, Steve Shirley Johs of Bismarck; six daughters, Florence Frank Wangler of Kintyre, Helen Leonard Berger of Bismarck, Jo Robert Jordan of Des Moines, IA, Bernie Allen Huber of Bismarck, Shirlene Scott Schafer of Bismarck, and Carleen Dan Scherr of Bismarck; twenty-two grandchildren, Troy, Darrin and Robin, Lori, Cheryl and Tom, Kristi and Drew, Cleo and Michael, Miranda and Scott, Ryan and Lori, Derek and Jamie, Brandon and his fiancée Chelsie, Jason, Tyler, Layne, and twins, John and Jay; twelve great-grandchildren, Kylie, Dylan, Aisha, Brady, Ethan, Saralyn, Katelyn, Aiden, Luke, Thomas, Madison, and Sarah; two sisters, Theresa Mastel of Linton, and Rose Tony Holzer of Linton; three sisters-in-law, Betty Lauinger of Linton, Rita Aberle of Strasburg, and Mary Ann Gefroh of Linton; and John’s sister, Mary Weigel of Napoleon, and brother, Adam Sally Johs of Napoleon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one son, George; one great-grandson, Silas; seven brothers; and three sisters. Special thanks to the caregivers, Patricia Decker and Bonnie Hogue for helping us take care of our mom.
