Anton "Tony" J. Piatz

Anton “Tony” J. Piatz, 88, Bismarck, died peacefully February 10, 2010, at St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with Monsignor Wendelin Vetter and Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in the St. Phillips Cemetery, Napoleon. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Friday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil/rosary service will begin at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Anton was born September 16, 1921, to Jacob and Marianna Schumacher Piatz. He grew up on the family farm south of Napoleon and attended school in rural Logan County. Anton married Anna Mary Weigel on February 6, 1945, and they farmed 11 miles south of Napoleon. Together they had seven children. Anna Mary passed away October 26, 1967, of breast cancer. Anton married Barbara Keller Rohrich on October 10, 1970. They resided on the farm until 1990 upon their retirement and moved to Bismarck. Anton enjoyed spending time with family; he was a handy man of all trades and could fix anything. He enjoyed farming, and after retirement, enjoyed his woodworking. His talent is displayed in homes of many family members. Anton is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons, Leo Maggie, Dunn Center, Ben Leona, Cambridge, MN, and Felix, Bismarck; four daughters, Marianne Ray Barta, Nashwauk, MN, Maggie Darwin Dockter, Pengilly, MN, Helen Gary Just, Bismarck, and Glori Roger Van Heukelom, Bismarck; one stepdaughter, Marie Charlie Butz, Harwood, and one stepson, Albert Debbie Rohrich, Missoula, MT; two brothers, Willie Tillie Piatz and Andy Lorriane Piatz, Napoleon; seven sisters, Maggie Sebastian Bernhardt, Linton, Mary Anton Brendel, Bismarck, Julia Horner, Irene Horner, Rose Pete Horner and Tillie Christ Leier all of Napoleon, and Carolyn Dinius, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and three step great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Anton was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mary; his parents; and two brothers, Mike and James.
