Arlene Mae Antolak

Arlene Mae Antolak, 81, Bismarck, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 18, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Mike Roehl officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 19, at Redeemer Cemetery in Bowdle, SD. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, October 17, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Arlene was born May 28, 1932, in Bowdle, SD, to Gerhard and Eva Doerr Blumhardt, where she grew up on the family farm. Arlene was baptized June of 1932, and confirmed June of 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bowdle, SD. She attended high school at Northwestern Lutheran Academy, Mobridge, SD, and college at Dr. Martin Luther College, New Ulm, MN, and Northern State Teachers College, Aberdeen, SD. She taught at country schools for eight years in South Dakota and Wisconsin. Arlene married Walter Antolak on September 2, 1961, in St. Paul, MN, and they had one child, Anita. They moved to Denver, CO, where Arlene worked in the insurance industry. She was dedicated and hard-working and made many friends throughout the United States. Arlene had many interests and hobbies but supporting and loving her four grandchildren was her main enjoyment. Arlene retired and moved to Bismarck in 2005, where she enjoyed living at the Patterson Place. Arlene was a member of the St. Paul congregation, the Women's Fellowship group and sang in the church choir. She made friends very easily and truly enjoyed being an active member of the Bismarck/Mandan Newcomer's Club. Arlene is survived by her daughter, Anita Antolak Shotkoski, Springburo, OH; her grandchildren, Kristopher Jolene Antolak, Allen Antolak, Nicole Zach Day, Brandon Shotkoski; her great-grandchildren, Brady and Brooke Antolak; her brother, Paul Jody Blumhardt; her sister-in-law, Hertha Blumhardt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brother, Wilbert Blumhardt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bismarck, or the Bismarck Cancer Center Foundation.
