Arthur Allen Davis

The world lost one of its cherished and most genuine souls on November 15, 2014, when Arthur Art Allen Davis, 82, entered into eternal life. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Friday, November 21, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm Thursday, November 20, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Art was known by many as the quintessential gentleman, full of compassion and kindness. Art was born April 18th, 1932 in Bemidji, MN to Alfred and Emma Marie Malterud Davis. Art grew up in Bemidji, MN and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1950. Art enjoyed spending time with his grandparents, Ada Belle and John Malterud and many cousins on the farm in Becida, MN. Art played varsity baseball for Bemidji State College while completing a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He later obtained a Master's degree in Education from the University of North Dakota. Art married his best friend and soul mate, Judith Kowalke, on June 25th, 1960 in Nevis, MN. They moved to Bismarck, ND in 1961 where they raised their family of five children. Art provided a glowing example of how to live life through a commitment to personal and professional excellence. Art was a professor of accounting at Bismarck Junior College BJC for 30 years and regularly announced at BJC sporting events. In addition to his career in education, Art served for 26 years on the Board of Directors of Capital Credit Union, was a lector at Corpus Christi Church, was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, and a Toastmaster. Art enjoyed the great outdoors and loved to spend time at the family cabin in Minnesota The Sheffield Place. He was a fan of all sports, enjoyed hunting and fishing and also liked to spend time reading and completing crossword puzzles. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His life was an illustration of deep faith, personal integrity, and the desire to do the right thing. Art's spirit will live on through his wife Judy; children Sheryl Perry Lee, Lisa Davis, Steve Leann Davis, Linda Kip Rath, LeAnne Scott Thomas; and grandchildren Ashlee Mees, Christie James Massen, Gentry Lee, Landon Huber, Bo Rath, Allie Davis, Kassidy Lee, Bethany Rath, Drew Davis, Brittany Rath, Luke Rath, Chandler Thomas, Courtney Thomas and Cayleigh Thomas. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Emma Marie Malterud Davis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Elks National Foundation or Corpus Christi Church.
