Arthur Klostreich

Arthur Klostreich, 94, Bismarck, died November 6, 2013, at his home in Bismarck, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 12, at Bismarck Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Allen Finger and Rev. Brad Klostreich officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday, November 11, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Arthur was born July 18, 1919, in Madison, SD, and came to the Cleveland, ND, area at the age of six months with his parents, Karl and Julia Witt Klostreich. Art grew up on the family farm and was educated in the Medina, ND, area. He served in the CCC's in the fall of 1935 through spring of 1937. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942, serving in the 90th Division-343rd Artillery in the European Theatre of operations, spending three months in England and took part in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day 1. Art was in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Germany. He was discharged in 1945, and started work for the Northern Pacific Railroad now Burlington Northern car department in Jamestown, ND. He worked in Jamestown until 1962, when he transferred to Mandan, ND. Art retired in 1979. He enjoyed many days of fishing and taking care of his yard and garden. Art married Elma Juengling in 1942 in Moorhead, MN. He was a member of Bismarck Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 3, AFL-CIO Union Local 6440, Railroad Museum Historical Society-charter Member, CCC ND Chapter 106. Art is survived by his wife, Elma; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David and Lois Klostreich, White Bear Lake, MN; one daughter, Dr. Barbara Oates, Bismarck; two grandsons, Rev. Bradley Klostreich, Palm City, FL, and Jason Klostreich, Mt. Carmel, CT; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and five sisters. Arthur will be remembered as a loving and loyal soldier, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
