Bernice Berg

Bernice Berg, 88, Bismarck, formerly of Wing, went to her Heavenly home June 20, 2007, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing, with the Rev. Dan Dornfeld officiating. Burial will be in the Wing Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Bernice Mae was born in Taylor, ND, to Ole H. and Nellie Knutson Myran on February 11, 1919. She was raised and educated in the Taylor area until her last two years of high school when she attended a parochial school at Canton, SD, and graduated from there. She attended Dickinson University and received her two year standard teaching degree there. She taught rural schools in the Wing area where she met Ernest Berg. Bernice and Ernest were married in Wing on November 23, 1941. She continued teaching school in the rural area around Wing. They lived and farmed in the area until 1972 when they moved into Wing. While living in Wing, Bernice and Ernest did daycare for many, many children and they loved them all dearly, many of whom were still in contact with her. She helped Ernest with all of his sausage making, together making many hundreds of pounds. They were always helping other people and never expecting anything in return. After sixty years of marriage, Ernest passed away on December 1, 2001. Bernice was an excellent cook and baker. The coffee pot was always on and when you visited there, she had coffee, kuchen and caramel rolls for her guests. When you were leaving, there were treats to take along home. She never complained about anything, always taking one day at a time. Bernice was a God-fearing mother, always reading the Bible and searching the scriptures. Bernice was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wing and belonged to the Ladies Circle. She moved to Bismarck in 1999 and there attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church which she greatly enjoyed. In March she became ill and spent six weeks in the hospital, then moved to Golden Manor Nursing Home in Steele where she resided until being hospitalized. Her greatest love was for her children and all those children that she babysat for. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was "Grandma" to many. Bernice enjoyed playing cards, especially Phase 10 with her sister and brother. She enjoyed reading, especially the Bible and Billy Graham books. The past few years, she was able to spend time with her sister who was ill, for which she was very grateful. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Bernice is survived by her children, Delores and Dean Heinle of Mesa, AZ, and their children, Seless and Jason Radanke of St. Paul, MN, Jason and Amy Heinle of New Prague, MN, and Justin Heinle of Queen Creek, AZ; Dale and Shirley Berg of Tappen, ND, and their children, Dawn and Roger Thompson of Bismarck, ND, Deanna and Matt Lachenmeier of Tappen, ND, Michael Berg of Bismarck, ND, and Dr. Debbie Schoepp of Mandan, ND; Darrell and Cindy Berg of Boise, ID, and their children, Kristin and Chase Cavanaugh of Nampa, ID; Shannon and Waylon Pearson of Boise, ID; Nathan Berg of Boise, ID; Dean Berg and Marilyn Fibiger of Bismarck, ND, and his children, Derrick Berg of Maple Grove, MN, and Jennifer Berg and her fiancée, Brian Helm of Bismarck, ND; and an "adopted" daughter, Mary B. and Orvin Buchholz of Tuttle, ND, and her children, Doug and Rhonda Brincks of Kasson, MN, and Joe, Nicole and Owen Brincks of Minot, ND; four great-grandchildren, Bradyn and Dylan Lachenmeier of Tappen, ND, Olivia Radanke of St. Paul, MN, and Aidan Heinle of New Prague, MN; her brother, Henry of Taylor, ND; her sister-in-law, Freda Leno of Valley City, ND; brothers-in-law, Art and Hulda Berg of Lincoln, CA, and Sam Berg of Fargo, ND; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of good friends and neighbors. Her excellent caregivers at Golden Manor are also among the survivors. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; her sister and brother-in-law, Ardys and Myron Jordan; her sister-in-law, Doris Myran; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, and friends. May you rest in peace! We love you very much.
