Bernita Rae Brown

Bernita Rae Brown, 94, Bismarck, passed away April 12, 2011, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck. Services will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, April 18, at Glencoe Presbyterian Church, southeast of Bismarck, with Rev. Ben Dove officiating. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Sunday, April 17, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Bernita was born March 11, 1917, in Bismarck, ND, the daughter of Elmer and Pearl Moore Naset. Her mother died in 1918, she and her brother, George Naset, were raised by an aunt and uncle, Robert and Ruth Moore Fields. Bernita considered her cousins, John, Jim, and David Fields, as brothers. She also had six half-siblings, Dale, Arlean, Lyle, Robert, Jean and Vivian Naset. Bernita attended Burligh County schools and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1936. On October 21, 1937, she married James Brown in Bismarck. Later that year, they moved to Mount Vernon, WA, where their two sons were born, Milton and Dennis. In 1955, they moved back to Bismarck. James died in 1958. After her sons were grown, Bernita attended the Interstate Business College in Bismarck and entered the workforce. She worked for Buck Distributing, Congress, Inc. and Premium Beverage as a bookkeeper before retiring in 1982. Bernita also served many years on the township board for Missouri Township. In her early years, Bernita loved to entertain, garden, can vegetables, and sew. In her later years, she loved visiting, playing cards, crocheting and working crossword puzzles. Bernita attended the Glencoe Presbyterian Church and read her bible faithfully. Bernita is survived by one son, Milton Arllis Brown; two grandsons, Mitchell Brown and his fiancée Kathy Schneider, and Barrett Lisa Brown; one granddaughter, Chasity Brown; two step-grandchildren, Crystal and Kenneth Zeeb; and numerous great-grandchildren. Bernita was preceded in death by her husband, James; son, Dennis; her parents; the aunt and uncle who raised her; her brother, George; and her special friend, Melvin Bower.
