Beryl Kiefer

Beryl Evelyn Kiefer, 103, Bismarck, died September 19, 2008, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Beryl was born July 31, 1905, in Emmons County, the daughter of Charles and Lena Preszler Gantka. She received her education in a rural school and Hazelton High School. Beryl married Walter Kiefer on June 30, 1925, at the Linton Methodist Church. They farmed in the Hazelton area until 1936, when they purchased a farm in the Livona area. Their son, Duane, took over the farm, and they retired and moved to Bismarck in 1968. Walter died May 15, 1988 in Bismarck. Beryl had been a resident at the Patterson Place from 1987 until 2005, when she moved into the Terrace. In December 2006, Beryl moved into Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Beryl was a fifty year charter member of the Gayton Homemakers Club of Emmons County and served eight years as a 4-H Leader. She belonged to Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church and Ladies Missionary Society. In 1980, she started volunteering at the Burleigh County Senior Center in crafts and quilting, then in the plant room and gift shop. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and craftwork and loved gardening and growing plants and flowers. Beryl loved and was very proud of her family. She is survived by her son, Troye Kiefer of Yuma, AZ; her daughter, Dolores Wilson of Cheyenne, WY; her greatly adored six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Kay Gantka of Houston, TX, and many nephews, nieces and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her son, Duane Keifer; her daughter, Janice Grenz; three grandsons, Steven, Douglas and Kevin Grenz; four brothers, Fred, Lynn, Charles and Floyd Gantka; and four sisters, Velma Dietzman, Adaline Perry, Inez Crimmins and Eula Hagge.
