Betty Lou Ann Franklund-Schoeneman

Betty Lou Ann Franklund-Schoeneman, 78, of Bismarck, ND, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, at St. Alexius Medical Center on Saturday, July 12, 2014, after a yearlong struggle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck. The family will greet visitors at Eastgate Funeral Service on Tuesday, July 15, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for time of remembrance. Betty was born to Jacob and Hilda Just Buchholz on July 16, 1935, in a boxcar north of Bismarck. Hence, the name, Boxcar Betty. She was educated in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1953. She was baptized November 24, 1935, and confirmed June 22, 1947. She attended First Lutheran and Zion Lutheran Churches, Bismarck, and Zion Lutheran Church, Baldwin. Betty married Willis Franklund on December 21, 1953, in Bismarck. Following their marriage, they moved to El Paso, TX, where Willis was stationed in the service. Upon their return, they lived in the Bismarck and surrounding Baldwin areas to engage in farming. Many of her years were spent as a housewife and assisting Willis on the farm. Before and after Willis' passing in 1989, she worked a variety of clerical positions including Boy Scouts Office, Bethel Lutheran Church, McCabe Methodist Church, and Medcenter One. She also worked in the lab department at St. Alexius and spent many years as a care giver. Betty found great joy in entertaining family and friends with a simple meal or dessert, as her home was always the spot to gather. Some of her hobbies she so enjoyed were cooking and baking, and attending bible studies and seminars to expand her knowledge. She collected items that replicated a ladies old style lace up boot. After getting reacquainted at class reunions, Betty married her loving friend and classmate, Lew Schoeneman, in 2010, in Bismarck. Betty and Lew enjoyed many trips to Minneapolis, Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington to visit family and friends. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, and loving grandmother. She enjoyed life and just wanted to have fun. She will be remembered for her deep Christian faith, kind and giving heart, beautiful smile and sparkling brown eyes. She is survived by her husband, Lew Schoeneman, Bismarck; son, Greg Franklund and friend Shala, Bismarck; daughters, Terri Bruce Hegel, Box Elder, SD, and Diane "Franky" Ward Enger, Bismarck; grandchildren, Ben Nicole Hegel and Chad Stacy Hegel; stepsons, Craig Beth Schoeneman, Elk River, MN, and Dan Schoeneman, St. Louis Park, MN; eight grand/great-grandchildren and two granddogs; siblings, Rodger Mavis Buchholz, Bismarck, Verna Don Johnson, Salem OR, and Joyce Torry Johnson, Friday Harbor, WA; one aunt, Velma Just; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis; her parents; sister, Ella Meyer; and nephews, Douglas Meyer and Brian Williams.
