Betty Jane McCormick

In loving memory of Betty Jane McCormick, age 84 of Bismarck, who passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at St. Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Church of St. Mary in Bismarck with Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 - 9:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Betty Jane Small was born on February 18, 1923, the daughter of Roy and Mabel Clooten- Small. A graduate of St. Mary's Central High, she married William L. Swenson in October of 1941 and they had four children, Gene Swenson, Linda Swenson-Hawley, Monte Swenson, and Vicki Swenson-Trusty. Bill Swenson died in November 1950. Betty Jane Swenson married Eugene F. McCormick in November of 1952 and they had three daughters, Patty McCormick-Mattson, Peggy McCormick-Kauffmann, and Pam McCormick-Fordahl. Gene McCormick died in July 1996. Betty McCormick was a true homemaker and ranch wife with little time for outside hobbies while raising seven children. She was president of the Manning District School Board, a member of the Bismarck Horse Club, active in St. Mary's Church and St. Hildagard fundraisers, Homemaker's Club, and CowBells Organization. Betty Jane is survived by her daughters, Linda Don Hawley of Palm Springs, California, Vicki Milo Trusty of Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, Patty Tim Mattson of Bismarck, Peggy Roman Kauffmann of Bismarck, and Pam McCormick of Bismarck; her son, Gene Swenson of Dallas, Texas; sixteen grandchildren, Staci Hawley-Praske; Michael, Amy Swenson-Barton, and Michelle Swenson; Monte, Jennifer, and Jessica Trusty; Tim, Heather, and Cara Mattson; Kristin, Katelyn, and Kelsey Kauffmann; and Elizabeth, Allison, and Joseph Fordahl; eleven great-grandchildren; her sister, Royann Bement of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. Betty Jane was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; her son, Monte Swenson; her sister, Rosemary Weigel; and her brother, Walter Small. Memorial donations may be made to the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, St. Mary's Central High School Scholarship Fund, or St. Alexius Hospice.
