Betty Jean Goetz

Betty Jean Goetz, 69, Bismarck, died March 3, 2008. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway,Bismarck with Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the Halliday Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck and continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Betty Jean was born January 4, 1939, on the family farm in Werner, ND, the daughter of Leo and Margaret Cook Goetz. She grew up and attended school in Halliday where she enjoyed participating in many school activities, including playing guard on the girl's high school basketball team and graduated as the Salutatorian in the class of 1956. Following graduation, Betty Jean attended Jamestown College. She worked for several local businesses in Bismarck and for several years was with the Social Security Administration office as a disability examiner. Later in life, she moved to Portland, OR,to care for her aunt and uncle, until returning to Halliday to care for her mother. She returned to Bismarck where she worked for Cracker Barrel and Walmart. Betty Jean's pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She was a child magnet and children of all ages would gravitate to her. She loved playing cards, board games, attending her grandchildren's music and sporting events and was an avid sports fan herself. One of her annual highlights was to travel to Arizona to visit family. The random acts of kindness received by many were unending. She always wanted to take care of everyone else first. Betty Jean had no fear of adversity, she was a survivor. Betty Jean is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Leo TracieGefroh Jr. of Bismarck, ND, Scott Jean Gefroh of Bismarck, ND and TimJudy Gefroh of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler, Jim,Stephen, Jordan and Kaitlyn and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen "Butch" Marilyn Goetz of Tuscon, AZ and Bill JaniceGoetz of Cincinnati along with numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother,Ron.
