Byron James Bohrer

Byron James Bohrer "Bing" passed away on the evening of June 7, 2012, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota. He was 58 years old. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, June 12, at Church of St. Mary, 806 E Broadway Ave, Bismarck, with Rev. Gene Lindemann and Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm Monday, June 11, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and from 6:00 pm -9:00 pm at Century Baptist Church, 205 Colt Ave, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm with Rev. Gordon Stork presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Byron was born November 5, 1953, in Bismarck, ND, to Wesley and Mary Ann Berger Bohrer. He attended St. Mary's Elementary School and graduated from St. Mary's Central High School. He continued on to Mary College, and graduated with a BS in Business Management as well as a minor in Philosophy. Byron's parents owned and operated Hoskins-Meyer Floral for many years and he grew up in the floral business. From his parents, Byron learned the value of a kind word, friendly gesture and, most of all the spirit of generosity. He constantly sent flowers or cards to his friends, relatives and acquaintances; he frequently gave gifts, either simple or extravagant, in an effort to make everyone's life just a bit brighter. Byron married Laurie Dawson in 1978 and together they raised three sons, Matt, Mike, and Nick. Byron strongly believed in the freely-offered grace of Jesus Christ. It was his view that the Jesus, his Savior, would be willing to take him home at the end of his life, then Heaven would be mostly full with other sinners like himself. Byron's health declined about four years ago when he was diagnosed Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy. This left him often unable to get out of the house, yet he never complained about his illness and was unfailingly cheerful for the many friends that would come to visit him. Byron savored life in many ways including spending time with family and friends. He was always seeking opportunities for close fellowship. He was a master of hospitality and his work at the Greenhouse included an "open door" and kindness to all. He hired many friends and others he hired became his friends. He was a major influence on Young Life in the Bismarck-Mandan area. He found great joy in the lives of his sons, nieces, nephews, and grandchild. He is survived by his sons Matt Sara and his granddaughter Payton; Mike Kelly, and Nick; his mother Mary Ann; his brother Dave Cathy their children Caitlin and Collin; his sister Mary Matt Puetz and their children Katie, Hunter, and Connor; brother Richard Lisa and their son Ryan; and Byron's dog Casey.
