Catherine Kuhn

Catherine Kuhn, 86, Bismarck, died October 31, 2010, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where a rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Catherine was born on December 30, 1923, in Dickinson, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Mitilda Milius Braun. Born a day before her husband, while their parents were visiting mutual friends, they actually shared a crib at six months of age. Catherine was raised in Amidon, ND, until 1933 when her family settled on the family farm east of Bismarck. She attended local school before enlisting in the Women's Army Corp and served during WWII. She married John Kuhn on February 1, 1949, in Bismarck, at Church of St. Mary. Catherine worked at Montgomery Wards for 5 years and then worked as a partner with John at the Arrowhead Shoe Plaza. They also built a number of homes, with Catherine doing the design work. Catherine was one of the first people in Bismarck to help with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Pinochle and was an outstanding baker known for her caramel rolls. Catherine loved to fish and spend time outdoors. She was a strong woman whom John described as the "Sparkplug." Her family would like to thank the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Nursing Staff and employees for the care they gave to Catherine and her family. Catherine is survived by her son, Rod Carla Kuhn, Bismarck; her daughters, Jane Yanney, Bismarck, and Patty John Tschida, Bismarck, ND and Haines City, FL; six grandsons, Mark, Matthew, and Justin Kuhn, Joshua Yanney, Caleb Tschida and Clayten Tschida;one great-granddaughter, Denali; and one sister, Florence LeRoy Stearns, Abilene, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Judy Kuhn; two grandsons, Paul Kuhn and Jonathan Yanney; three brothers, Ralph, Adam and Mike Braun; and two sisters, Elizabeth Baker and Mary Melius.
