Charles William Lind

Charles William "Bill" Lind, Jr., 82, died April 26, 2006 at a local care center. Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel with the Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7 PM Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Bill was born on February 25, 1924 in Wilton, ND, the son of Charles William and Elizabeth Sandelin Lind. He was raised on the family farm north of Wilton, graduating from Wilton High School in 1941. He attended Jamestown College until the war interrupted his studies and he served in the Army during WWII in Europe. After the war he returned to Jamestown College and graduated in 1948. During this time, Bill met the love of his life, Bette Thompson. Bill and Bette were married on November 5, 1948, in Valley City, ND. After their marriage, Bill received his Masters Degree in education from NDSU. Following college, Bill worked in Fargo for the ND Army National Guard. He transferred to Bismarck in 1956 and had resided there ever since. Bill and Bette celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998. Bill and Bette moved to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in 2002 where they made many friends with the staff and residents. Bette passed away on September 29, 2003. Bill had a lifelong love of music and sang in the Bismarck Messiah. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, served on the church council, was also the church treasurer, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Three Crown Swedish Club. Bill was a kind and caring man who was known for his sense of humor and was a devoted grandfather. Bill is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Bill Hoff, Colorado Springs, CO, and Evy and Chris Carlson, Bismarck, ND; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Karen Lind, Eau Claire, WI; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Donna Lind, Bismarck, ND, and Rollo and Songhee Lind, Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren, Cassidy and Elizabeth Hoff, Ellen Carlson, and Melissa, Jenna, and Emily Lind; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette; his parents; and an infant brother. Memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church or Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
